Initial Impressions.
Kind of hard to beat that Whirlwind of Awesome... between those FOUR GUYS. But I damned well will try with my angle partner next arc (and the arc after that possibly if my partner wants to keep things up). Consider the gauntlet thrown gentlemen! >:] Potential fueds between that whirlwind of amaze-balls is pretty good. Especially that tease at the end.
HAH! I beat motherfucking Evan to this!!!!!!!! HAHA
Bronson Box vs Eugene Dewey?
Seriously, I can't believe this was the first match to start things out with. I mean it's clearly an upper midcard match to begin with.
Claira St. Sure vs Seth Stratton
Pretty straightforward match. Not much to comment on here. I would've loved to see more offense from Stratton but that's neither here nor there.
Cash Money
I would've placed this segment on the last card, or somewhere innocous earlier in the arc where someone could forget it. Then refer back to it via announce team.
In which the DEFIANT Landscape Changes Drastically...
I've been waiting for this scene for quite sooooometime honestly. >:] I knew.
The End of You.
Cool hype. I think this should've gone somewhere earlier on the card placement wise and maybe cut a bit of it. Maybe have Mushigihara growl a threatening OSU!~ and have Eddie translate for the uneducated in how he speaks.
Troy Matthews vs Mushigihara
Straight forward match. I had a feeling who would win coming into this. I knew mostly because these were all your characters. I would love to see you work with someone putting together an awesome, and unpredictable volatile fued.
I feel like you need a feud. I'd love to personally see you go heel and throw your chips in the ring for the SoHer. With what's going on with the FIST title that might be a tall order. Because that shit seems pretty locked up tightly.
Poor useless fucktard
I wanted Booya's accent. More comments on this segment on the second one.
The Lion, The HOSS and the Swanky Wardrobe
A little bias, I loved the segment. >
Loved the little nods to the match. Seth has an excellent build up here.
Henry Keyes vs Stockton Pyre vs Curtis Penn
I kind of had a feeling where this was going to go ---- pretty good promo though for the most part. I'd love to see more heels here.
Demanding competition
Very nice promo here.
Part of me actually wishes this was on the first Canada show though, to be honest.
Starstruck
I loooooooooved this one. Excellent work by James, Justin, and Mike. You really sold the characters well.
Team HOSS vs TexMex Holiday
No comment. I'll make some after everyone's finished reading this and hopefully pointing out awesome moments of the match that they loved.
Not So Fast, Champ
Heeey~! Wait a minute there champ!
Edward White vs. Frank Dylan James
This match was a long angle coming. It has a satisfying finish for us.
Heidi Christenson's goals make sense to her alone
Left me with more questions then answers. Not a *bad* thing perse. Because it makes me want to see what happens next. I'm still hungry for more TuT and UT shit. But then I had my chance at the UT.
I still don't have a 100% inkling of what Heidi meant here about destroying Kai if he didn't win. I'm not sure -- maybe it's just me. I needed a bone of some sort, I felt a little left out in the cold.
Dusty Griffith vs Alceo Dentari
A pretty good match. Unexpected evolution of the match. I loved it. It's a pretty solid line up.
This... Is FAR From Over.
I actually didn't expect this coming. I like the angle though, I felt like Alceo wasn't being utilized fully - not a *knock* against you Damien. The character is very solid and I could book angles and sell a solid feud with the character with practically anyone on the Roster. But I think this is a great team up. I appreciate teh Alceo Dentari character. Reminds me of an old character from the WfWA, Ricky Taverna - who happens to be one of my favorite heels, all time.
So to see Alceo being utilitized like this is awesome.
HE LIVES!
Consider me swerved.
I was thinking something else.
Dan Ryan vs Eugene Dewey vs Bronson Box
Very awesome angle. Awesome booking. I liked the exchanged at the end between Bell and Ryan. It's going to be quite the clusterfuck moving forward. I'm not sure how you can simultaniously top this segment/finish while continuing on with your feuds solo. There are some interesting lineups here and I could see some interesting feud combinations. I think this is a great way to both blow off a feud and kickstart one.
I won't say it should be the template, because if we keep getting the same thing it'll bore us out. I'll add more to this but I think that we should find a way to connect our angles from the current arc to the next better. I know I'm going to have an odd transition.
Truly Untouchables vs Hookers ‘n Blow (ccc)
Lot's of jokes.
Run, Bitch, RUUUUUN! Somehow that made me think of Dave Chapelle. Some how the whole Black Jesus bit reminds me of Scary Movie.
Passing of the Torch, so to speak...
I seriously hope people use Kelly Evans in their segments, not ALL segments mind. But in the WWE and most promotions whenever there's a change in managment, said managment has a hand in ALL the angles. It's also an overarching story that everyone can get involved with.
Heidi Christenson vs Kai Scott
Another well written match... I think that's a basic standard of our matches. I had a feeling about the outcome because of the buildup to the match.
Other Shit
Honestly I think what was executed well on the card was the cohesion between the major angles on the upper card. Hindsight is 20/20, but I didn't understand the buildup between the Boxer/Ryan/Dewey/et all shit until the final pay off sequence. And that's what made the final payoff greater. I like being surprised like this, I don't want to come to expect thing sort of thing from every single handler/character in the fed because that'll saturate things considerably.
We might need some more communication somehow between everyone and the BOSSes.
We had 3 trios matches, essentially on this card. I had something to do with one of them, mind, and I knew coming into this card in the back of my mind: "Two trios matches, heh, that might be a bit much for the gimmick/angle". It sort of goes to what Ken talked about last card about the whole communication bit. Our trios match had been planned since well before we knew we'd be in Germany. I think this is something we all need to work on communicating.
The match writing, I think we need to all take responsibility for submitting a match if you're booked in it. This isn't to say that you should ALL be writing the match, but everyone should know where the status of their matches are at. Our match had about 8-10 pages written on saturday in our document, and we had about 20 more pages to write. I didn't write those pages alone, neither did Ken or Seth. We wrote it together. We were a
partnership. I think if you're involved in a feud, you should definitely try to create a feud/booking/angle doc. Everyone wants to look good, but you should also worry about making your feud partner look just as good, if not better then you.
And if you can find a satisfying payoff towards whatever end Justin/Jeff/Whoever directs you towards, I think it's that much more gratifying.
As for the segments, I think we did a decent job - mind, my group TexMex Holiday didn't have a segment. There wasn't much else we could stress. Do we tease the return? Ken and I decided not to, and to leave it so that the integrity of the story stays stronger.
I think we should all consider what aspects we think are cool, interesting about wrestling within the realm of Defiance and try to work towards having those moments. I dig obscure pop references (NBA Jam, James, NBA Jam.), and I love the surprise clusterfuck angle storm incoming. I can't predict where that storm will lead, but I think it'll be a satisfying watch/read.
I also think we need more heels in the SoHer division. We have nothing but fucking faces going after Curtis Penn. Which works for Penn, but it will make things troublesome for the faces involved trying to put on interesting stories.
