Jolt Intense 35 Review:
Note: with limited prior knowledge of happening in LoC or the previous version of Jolt.
  1. SEGMENT: “Unsolved Mysteries” feat. Sylo
    1. Like: Sylo opening the first show. Mystery name.
    2. Dislike: Placement.
    3. Comments: I think this segment would have been more effective after the initial in-ring segment opening the show. Would have come off as a surprise and quick change of pace. I also didn’t understand where both were before incident took place. It felt thrown together. Judging by the crack, I’m assuming Broken’s neck snapped. Shock value?
  2. SEGMENT: “The Master Plan” feat. Jim Johnson
    1. Like: Brandon Blade in the house.
    2. Dislike: Namedropping.
    3. Comments: Jim Johnson came off a bit boring to me. It sounded like a heavily scripted promo, obvious by the constant usage of full names and company references. I really dug the “God of Sports Entertainment”. If that isn’t already being used, it should be! Money. I understood the match setup and, again, enjoyed seeing Blade. There were times I wasn’t clear on who was speaking. It didn’t read smooth.
  3. SEGMENT: “And Hell Followed Him” feat. Sylo
    1. Like: Sylo interrupting Blade & Johnson.
    2. Dislike: Length.
    3. Comments: I enjoyed Sylo coming out and basically saving the segment and getting the crowd pumped. The reveal of JJ being the one that sent Broken was cool. I didn’t like the explanation Sylo gave about the hummer and Krow which should have been omitted. The segment ran a bit long which I didn’t think was necessary. This seemed like an instance of quantity over quality. The same impact could have come across with a shorter segment and kept focus. Overall, I think it was a good segment.
  4. MATCH: “Bane Loneheart v. One Eye”
    1. Like: Match length.
    2. Dislike: Usage of Derecho. Ending.
    3. Comments: Short matches can definitely be effective if used the correct way. The longer, more detailed matches should be used for PPVs or special events, as needed. There was a reference to Laz v. Davis, which I didn’t see. References such as Derecho out for a second time and the previous should have been fixed prior to the posting, either by management or original writer. Small, but good to be thorough. My only problem with ending was that One Eye was able to pull off the victory without fully selling the effects of the chair-thrashing. Finally, Derecho being out there, but not being referenced to throughout the match seemed pointless. That’s the champion out there. Whether fans love or hate him, he’s the champ! Use him to build the match and tournament. He’s obviously out there for a reason, right?
  5. SEGMENT: “Taking Advantage” feat. Kayden Paulton
    1. Like: Entire segment.
    2. Dislike: Nothing.
    3. Comments: Short and sweet, my favorite. I take it Paulton is a bit of a comedic character, which I like. The pre-match attack by the hardcore legend will make the match later on in the night all the more interesting, if applied properly. Also, loved the use of Michael Burhman. It’s amazing how commentating can raise the level of a segment in its simplicity.
  6. SEGMENT: “Tonight We Ride” feat. Heirs of Wrestling
    1. Like: The group.
    2. Dislike: Nothing.
    3. Comments: Seemed like a throwback to an 80s team, which is great. Three big men in the tag division and they’re arrogant as ****. I enjoyed the interview content, use of Donny, and the mouthpiece. I’m already expecting big stuff from these guys.
  7. MATCH: “Fueled by Ignorance v. Heirs of Wrestling”
    1. Like: Pace of the match.
    2. Dislike: Nothing.
    3. Comments: The blame was put on Register for losing the match, yet it was Titan that tagged him back in without allowing him time to catch his breath from the beating before. Obviously, Brody is going to be a problem for all teams in the tag division, but adds an element to focus on. As a reader, the match was spot on. Beating the former Jolt tag champs definitely puts them on the map as a force to be reckoned with. Good job.
  8. SEGMENT: “Awakening” feat. Derecho
    1. Like: Flashbacks.
    2. Dislike: Inclusion.
    3. Comments: The flashbacks were enjoyable. They gave insight into who Derecho is and where he came from, if you don’t already know. I enjoy when a writer takes into consideration that current/future readers may not know their elaborate histories. My issue is I don’t feel this segment (video package?) should have been included on the card. It felt out of place and more like an RP, which would have served a better purpose as one. Just imagine it at a live show following the tag match previous. Especially given the fact that we had seen Derecho early on in the night, this didn’t flow right. Not sure if he’s currently a heel, but I feel it going that way. There was reference made to the Legacy championship as a new goal, which kind of made it seem as though there was no appreciation for the Underground championship. Not sure if this is the case, it’s just how it came off to a reader not knowing the backstory.
  9. MATCH: “Mike Extreme v. Kayden Paulton”
    1. Like: Violet. Outcome.
    2. Dislike: No mention of Kayden.
    3. Comments: It was entertaining seeing Extreme take out Kayden backstage then wind up moving to the second round because of a count out. I would have liked to have seen Kayden though. Was he still out backstage, being attended to by physicians, at the hospital? I’m hoping KP plans on getting some revenge in the future. He did cost him his shot at a championship, which is a big thing!
  10. SEGMENT: “Fueled by Hatred” feat. Chris Titan
    1. Like: Overall segment.
    2. Dislike: Absolutely nothing.
    3. Comments: Great segment! A team of the past is having problems in the present. Titan seems to want more. What good is a team if they can’t work together? They did look good in the ring together, but Titan has a temper. I interested to see where this heads.
  11. SEGMENT: “Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance” feat. The Nashvillain
    1. Like: Freebird rule.
    2. Dislike: Nothing.
    3. Comments: This felt like the right mixture of good guy v. bad guy with the fans. The champ has a good amount of heat on him and should continue this momentum. He has the West Texas Terrorists backing his play and I can already see them using their identical looks to their benefit in their future matches. The clothesline to Sweet Aroma felt like a little much, especially for the live crowd. JCON and Nash have chemistry, this one looks good!
  12. MATCH: “The Nashvillain © v. Jonathan Conspiracy
    1. Like: Nashvillain capitalizing on situation.
    2. Dislike: No announcers.
    3. Comments: I liked that Nashvillain controlled the match, not just because of the beating JCon took before, but because Villain is the champ and a force to be reckoned with. I really enjoy this title picture. The rule of not being able to turn down a match. In a way, you have to be one of the baddest sum*****es in the company to hold that title for a decent timeframe. Pertaining to announcers, I feel their inclusion could have helped dramatize the match. Also, swear words were replaced with (****) which is cool if that’s the format we (as a whole) are going to follow. We can either choose to include the ****s and ****s or block it out. Dan? Also, the tron was supposed to be broken right?
  13. SEGMENT: “A Citizen’s Warning” feat. Citizen
    1. Like: Message within.
    2. Dislike: No explanation of who Jason Roberts is, but I’ll assume bad blood here?
    3. Comments: Quality over quantity, my favorite. The Gangland reference made me laugh. Citizen is a bit creepy, strikes me as a member of illuminati, haha. This segment was believable in front of a live crowd and served its purpose to further the character. Good job.
  14. MATCH: “Derecho © v. Rune Winters”
    1. Like: Match of the night thus far!
    2. Dislike: Shovel broken over neck.
    3. Comments: Derecho obviously reinvented himself or apparently transitioned back into a persona of the past. He obviously has snapped in an effort to “give the people what they want.” Good job Derecho. The fans were in silence throughout the match. One should question this as to whether they were in disbelief or it was just too much and the fanbase might diminish because of it. Questions Questions. I don’t think there should be name references to previous promotions. I get it, we all came from (insert fed here) and we did some wicked ****. Just a general reference would work fine without taking anything away from the current promotion. On to finishers and trademark moves. Is there any way to have a popup over these to explain what the move actually consists of? It would help a lot and I’m sure it isn’t that hard to do. Derecho, this dude destroyed the officials. Any possible fallout because of this or is this kind of behavior allowed? Finally, it didn’t click when Derecho decided to break the shovel over Winter’s neck. Wouldn’t the back have sufficed? I only say this because in the beginning on the night we saw Sylo damn near break Broken’s neck. This is professional wrestling, shouldn’t we be protecting the neck region? HaHa. Seriously though, doesn’t this sideline Rune now? Even if that was the intention, the neck blow wasn’t needed. Sylo’s made more sense. Great match though. It was a great read and I really connected with this match.
  15. SEGMENT: “Warpath” feat. Alexander Jerusalem
    1. Like: Bitterness.
    2. Dislike: Lack of focus on Blade.
    3. Comments: I like this guy. Referring to yourself as the most dominant monster in Jolt is sure to grab the attention of Sylo. I’m waiting for a response on this one. I liked how he felt he was second fiddle in LoC but now he’s facing the champion. After he mentioned Johnson, I was waiting for the “Why don’t you try that on me” statement, but it never came. Pretty dismissive of Blade as well, wondering if there’s a reason behind this I didn’t pick up on. Interested to see if he can walk the walk. Nice segment.
  16. SEGMENT: “Best of Luck” feat. Brandon Blade
    1. Like: Bane attack.
    2. Dislike: Final statement.
    3. Comments: I’m not really getting much from this champion. His interaction with Johnson at the start of the show was lackluster in comparison to Sylo coming out and (IMO) saving the segment. He’s striking me as a washed up champion. Is this the case? His former friend attacks him, I like this. I really appreciate no references were used to past shows, etc, but I still want to know the history between these guys. Perhaps an RP? Blade’s final words in the segment felt misplaced. Didn’t really sell the attack and he should have just picked up his title and headed out to the ring in obvious pain.
  17. MATCH: “Brandon Blade © v. Alexander Jerusalem”
    1. Like: Ending.
    2. Dislike: Match, though I understand Blade was injured.
    3. Comments: I didn’t see any reference to Blade’s ribs being injured or the fact that he wasn’t medically cleared to wrestle that night, and he had a bad knee? Wow, talk about a true champion. After AJ’s comments earlier on, I expected more out of his confrontation with Sylo. I truly didn’t expect him to get manhandled. Sylo reminds me of the Hulk, haha. I’m lost though, why did SVJ super kick the champ? Is there something I’m missing here between the Jolt champion and Legacy champion? Someone fill me in. The ring collapse was cool. This match felt a bit slow-paced and again, I didn’t get much from Blade. This event definitely sets up things to come and things to look forward to, or learn from. Congratulations guys, great start!

Thanks for taking the time to scope out this first show and giving some good feedback to it. I particulatly enjoyed it for a first show out myself and combined with the awesome prologue put together by Dan, it was a good read most definitely.

Now that explains a lot. I didn't even know there was a prologue, haha. No problem though. It's constructive criticism. I'm going to try to read all the shows as long as the length is reasonable. As long as I'm reading them I will be doing this weekly reviews, though the format might change a bit. Everybody else's feedback is welcomed too. I'm sure your peers would like to hear what you thought!

Yeah there's a lot of tie in coming over from LoC.

For me, at least, everything Sylo does is "real" meaning he isn't going out and getting a beer with the guys after they pretended to beat the hell out of each other. Plus, Dan's trying to cut out most of the LoC NPC's (thus the beat down of AJ also it helped establish how pissed off Sylo was at the fall of LoC.) AJ's official finish will be i36. Some things are being set up to make you ask why or be confused as well so when it does all come together you go "Oh ****! So that's what was going on!".

Yeah, I figured it would all come together at some point. I approached the card only knowing it was jOlt's initial show. For someone that had to prior knowledge of other feds happenings, you can see how much of it can be confusing.

Yeah, I understand 100%. I like the fact though we're an angle fed yet are still able to even keep some people on the roster in the dark so they get into it when things happen.

Or lose their mind trying to figure it out. Haha. I know what you mean though. Element of surprise. I tend to leave most in the dark as well. It normally sparks interest.

About that segment. It originally was supposed to be a cutscene in loc, since that got nixxed, we used it as a segment. I should have rewritten it. As for the match, I'm happy you enjoyed it and while the shovel shot to the neck was a bit much, the idea was to put rune out for a long time and I think it was Ernie who suggested to take rune out with his own shovel as a bit of irony.
