CHICAGO -- At Total Elimination in Chicago, in what should have been Message Board Entertainment's crowning moment since its reboot in August, a new faction made their presence known, a terrible presence that only means doom for the roster.
MBE's second PPV event since returning set out to induct four of its most legendary members into the brand new Hall of Fame and crown the first recognized Champion. They did both; in the title match, Doc Silver eked out a hard fought war with Justin Evitable to capture the MBE World Championship. Silver, known primarily in the A1 family of feds for his backstage shenanigans in A1E, is the official Champion, although Promo still claims he's the Champion, recognized by parent company PbPro. More on that later.
The Hall of Fame Inductions went off without a hitch for the first three. Duchess inducted former North American and World Champion BobbyR, Maggot inducted his longtime nemesis and two-time World Champion Hida Yakamo and Mr. Amazing! inducted MBE's Founding Father SupTool. Andrew Gilkison inducted the Spoiler, 6 time former World Champion. The Spoiler was the only one out of the four who didn't attend live, and during his speech, via satellite, the power cut off and a fake Spoiler proceeded to trash the Force of Nature's legacy before revealing himself as Freakfish. Bitter at his snub for the HoF (and if I may editorialize, it's a HUGE snub), Double F proceeded to orchestrate an assault on the in-ring contingient with PbPro legend A and former MBE superstar Ravage. They attacked everyone in the ring, often manhandling them.
"I done been in the ring with all the big guys," said Maggot, who was tossed out of the ring by Ravage with one hand. "Dan Ryan, The Spoiler, PILE, Mindbender, Star Rider... I stood toe to toe wit' all of 'em, but none of 'em coulda threw me the way that big musclehead threw me."
The attack was foreshadowed earlier in the evening when A, after being counted out due to PbPro Quintuple Crown Champion IrishRed's distraction in a match with Ryuji Yakamo, viciously assaulted the youngest son of Yori Yakamo, Sr. after what everyone thought was reprimand for the show of disrespect; Yakamo allowed his mentor to be counted out rather than break the count when he was face-to-face with Red.
The Unholy Alliance was completed when Ravage chokeslammed Andy Gilkison in his match with Promo. Gilkison won his match by disqualification, but the new alliance of Promo, Freakfish, Ravage and A got the last laugh, dismantling the Heart and Soul of MBE. Promo went on to claim that he never lost his MBE Championship after the company closed, so he should be the rightful claimant of the title. He also claimed that PbPro backed his claim.
In other matches, the opening tag match ended in a no contest. Cool Frank Cutta and Jock McCrunk battled Web Browser and Larry the Luddite to a double disqualification when neither team could restrain themselves from using weapons. Duchess underhandedly claimed the first title program with Silver as she defeated Jogi Fresh with a handful of tights in the Number One Contenders match. Finally, in the Tag Team Championship Six-Man Elimination Match, the Thrillbillies, with the help of Cowboy Jimmy Donovan, retained their MBE Tag Team Championships over the Sheffield Wednesday Lot as Hoss Garrison was the only man left on either team.
After the event ended, there was a ghastly pall cast on the fans.
"I wanted to see Spoiler," said one lad outside of the United Center. "That butthole Freakfish..."
His mother whisked him away before he could finish the quote.
MBE Owner Yoshihiro Yamada and CEO Yori Yakamo, Jr. could not be reached for comment on any of the happenings, although they were both caught with aghast reactions to the Hall of Fame interruptions on the broadcast. No word yet on the buyrate for this PPV event, although forecasters are predicting a 0.1 increase over Awakenings.
