Thanks man!
Just got done watching Grizzlies/Clips. I have become a gigantic Memphis fan. I have dubbed them "America's Team In The Best Possible Version of America". They're a total team of misfits, castoffs and weirdos. They had Hadid Haddadi -- who is about two years away from doing battle with The Great Khali -- and Gilbert Arenas on the court at the same time tonight.
I also have never made a 180 on a team faster than I have the Clips. When CP3 ended up on the team, I was beyond stoked. But I slowly started hating them throughout the year. And now they're just flat-out irritating with how much they flop and whine. But what's really lame -- every so often, there's something like Blake leaping for a loose ball in between three people, making some awkward pass to Deandre who throws something down. They could easily be everyone's favorite team.
Kenyon Martin's Lips was once the name of my fantasy basketball team. That will never get old for me. I would have done ANYTHING to see him and JR Smith play in China this year.
And how can ANYONE say Rondo sucks? They guy rules, save for shooting the ball. He passes, rebounds, can run both a break and a slow-down game, gets to the hole at will and plays really fierce defense. He does come off like he's constantly waiting for a bus in freezing rain but he's an awesome player.
My favorite player in the NBA right now is probably Kenneth Fareid. I don't think there has ever been a guy happier to play professional basketball in his life. He LOVES playing and isn't afraid to smile and express joy. It's like he's forever stuck in that moment where Moorehead State pulled that upset. It's so different than most of the rest of the league, which is filled with dudes with that fake-ass KG/LeBron/Kobe "me against the world" attitude.
Also, don't get me started on Andre Iguodala. He's arguably the most hated athlete here in Philly right now. The only other person in sports people hate more than him is Andy Reid. I have no idea why this is. He's one of the five best defensive players in basketball. He can play four positions on the court. He's a great passes and rebounder. People hate on him though for not being a scorer and for making too much money. The contract part I can understand since it ties up cap room but the dude's good enough to play in the international team. And the whole "he's a good second or third best player on an elite team" means to me that the Sixers should probably do something about getting a first or second best player to pair with him. I'm so glad he made those FTs so he at least gets one hour of appreciation.
