Official Unofficial FW Party Pimp
I didn't know where to post this, so I figured this FW sub-forum would be the best bet.
For those of you not-in-the-know, I am embarking on a multi-year, multi-state, multi-national journey starting on Wednesday, June 4. Well, maybe that's a little bit vague, so let me fill you all in on what I'm doing.
About a year ago I purchased a Mini-DVD camcorder from Sony, and started recording various things. One of these things became "Dove's Dime" for TEAM events that Kin Hiroshi participated in. Other things have included wedding testimonials for friends (that I edit and give as a wedding gift instead of crystal stemware that will only be used once or twice), weight loss vlogs on YouTube, random thoughts and friendly conversations with friends in other parts of the world. All the while, video has been my medium of choice.
It's been like that since I was a child. Film has always excited me. Even the new Indiana Jones movie holds something special for me. One of my closest childhood friends, Cory, knows how much I am into films, and a glance at my 500+ DVD, Blue-Ray, HD-DVD and VHS collection would prove to anyone I like every thing from "Akira" to "Zorro". Cory, the truest of friends, also knows how much I have hated having to live back in my home town and not experience the world for the past three years.
After graduating with a B.A. in Business Administration and Management Information Systems with a minor study in Mathematics, I moved back into my parents' basement at 24-years old, and proceeded to be unemployed for a year. Not by my choosing either, but life wanted me to do something that I wasn't ready to do. I then lived with a cancer patient, and helped care for him for a month before getting hired and fired from a school district. I finally found a job working for my dad (his desk is less than 10 feet from mine) in the accounting department of a paper mill in Hoquiam, WA.
I've been here two years, and it's been the most unhappy time of my life. Hate is a strong word, so I will say that I understand why a young Kurt Cobain dropped out of my high school alma mater to leave this cesspool. I guess that Grays Harbor County can hold the title of being the first place to invent flavored meth. Strawberry, if memory serves me.
Anyways, this past February, fresh off another broken relationship and with my 27th birthday fast approaching I decided to do something drastic. I knew that Cory and his wife had given me an open invitation to stay with them when they purchased a house in Las Vegas, so I gave my old buddy a call. We chatted for a bit, and then I brought up "business." We decided that when he, and his wife, bought a house I would be able to live with them and look to find work in Las Vegas.
Today, as I type this, is my last day of work at the paper mill. I quit my job, am selling everything that won't fit in my car (keeping those movies and video games though), and embarking on a three-day road trip to Las Vegas. All the while, I will be filming with my camcorder and making frequent stops to visit with locals in cities like Portland, Eugene, Reno and Las Vegas. I'm kind of stealing the idea from Roadtrip Nation, but I'm tired of chasing after what I SHOULD be doing and am finally starting to chase after what I WANT to do.
As of this Friday I will be a resident of Las Vegas, NV. I don't know if I'll have the internet, or how long I will be there. I do know that this time next year I've signed a contract to go to the island of Crete, in the Mediterranean Sea, and teach english for 6-months with an option to extend my stay to a year (or possibly indefinitely). I still plan on doing the e-wrestling thing, so don't worry.
In short, I'm living in my car again. This time it's by choice, and NOT circumstance. If you don't hear from me again, Siegel and Lindz have my phone number and I might give them periodic updates from the road.
In case you're wondering, I drive a 2004 Jetta. It's a small car and has enough room for my clothes, my toiletries, my important documents, my movies, my video games and consoles, a flat panel TV, workout equipment and a few kitchen supplies. I have no furniture, at all, and don't even have any money budgeted at this time to buy furniture. I'm living by the seat of my pants, and plan on selling my car and buying a motorcycle once I get to Las Vegas.
When it's time to move on, I'll know and only the necessities will come with me as I ride out of Sin City.
Live for what you want, people. People are happier when they go after what they want instead of what they should have.
Experience life!
Cheers,
