I went to a Ring of Honor show last night in New Jersey and all I can say is that it was the best live event I have ever been to. This was the third one I had gone to, and it just blew the first two out of the water. Seriously, they put on PPV quality matches in front of 500 people, and put more heart into it than I had ever seen. They gave everything in their matches, and they don't have fireworks or TitanTrons or big money contracts. Every match, and I mean EVERY MATCH they held my attention. It's a real shame, because they don't really go all over the country, so they don't have so much widespread noteriety. But does it look like it matters to them when they go out and put on a 5-star match?
I have to say, they whole show blew my mind. It really was flawless. It was the kind of show that makes you want to become a wrestler. And, my god, the crowd! They send goosebumps up your spine, that's how passionate they are. And you can tell that they totally appreciate what these guys are doing, the losers many times get a standing ovation as well as the winners. And just to give you an idea, they wrestle outside with no mats covering the hard gym floor. That being said, I watched as a 630 was done off the top of a cage, followed by a freaking corkscrew tumbleweed off the top TO THE FLOOR. Plus Mick Foley was there and that just rocked. I had met Foley a number of times outside the ring (once by the soda machine at my first ROH show), but I had really missed out on seeing him live at events, so this was a real treat. To be perfectly honest, if EUWC was a real promotion, I would imagine it to be exactly like ROH but on a bigger scale.
Hopefully I'll be back in New Jersey April 2nd for the next show and enjoy it as much as the first. Until then, I'll be watching my ROH DVD's and loving those. And I highly suggest that if you can't go to a live event, get your hands on a DVD, because it will rock you like WWE hasn't done in awhile.
Until next time...
