Southern vs. Manson
Miles vs. Mayfield
The favorite ones that I wrote:
1) Dorchester vs. WildStar -- My strategy going into this was to write a match with pure hatred with no wrestling moves. I think there may have been one. Aside from that, it's just pure punches. I also tried to frame it like a movie -- the beginning is supposed to be like a movie western showdown and the end scene with WildStar and Dorchester dangling is something I stole from North by Northwest. The final ending was great -- I wanted to have no doubts as to who won. No respectful walk-off for WildStar. (I was thinking that, behind-the-scenes, that originally the booking was that WildStar would get the happy send-off. But he went against that and came up with the angle w/ Dorchester spitting in his wife's face to put over his real life protege even more.)
2) Eli Flair vs. Shawn Hart -- This was the first match in the NFW's "league format" style. Hart was completely new to me (and I think to the whole NFW crew). He really did an amazing job and held his own against Eli. Just a really great thread. Going off of that, I wanted to write a match that had the feel of a NCAA First Round game where the spunky upstart gives one of the favorites to win it all total fits -- like a 2 vs. 15 or 3 vs. 14 game. I wrote it just like that -- not that Eli went in cocky, but Hart was just really determined to make a name for himself and his style caught Eli off his game. But Eli held on with an ending spot I loved -- he and Hart were climbing the ropes together and Eli did a Russian Leg Sweep off the second rope and threw Hart's head into the railing and then rolled back in to beat the ten count. Hart got over by fighting a legend to the end. Eli got over by showing his wits and intensity with how it ended.
3) The New Dawn vs. HWC -- IronMan matches are my favorite gimmick matches to write and to watch. The amount of storytelling that you can do is what makes them great. I had a few different things in this match I threw in there. I figured that, psychologically, DC was headed into this match really torn and this match was his push off the deep end. In the match, he cost Tsunami/WildStar a fall by being overeager, and that had Star and Rayne come down on him. Then he also saw WildStar use one of his trademarked moves, which further set him off the deep end. For the HWC, I really love Malik Anderson and wanted to push him in this match, because in the last match he looked like a coward (intentionally so) because he's scared of heights and it's a ladder match. So I think he might have every pin for the HWC in that match. I also thought that, from a "realism" perspective, WildStar wouldn't be in match shape. So I use him really sparingly in the match -- Tsunami's in the ring for most of the match for Dawn.
I'm REALLY excited for this match. I've never written a Survivor Series-style match before but there's a ton of stuff you can do with it. My goal's to make it the best match in NFW history and the best match I've ever written.
