When Dreams and Realities Aren't So Different Anymore
The sun shone brightly upon the city, a young hero walking in and looking about excitedly. He'd heard tales of Capital City, it was the greatest place that a hero could find. As he looked around, he watched people going about their normal, everyday lives. He watched as people and heroes alike mingled together, villains hiding in alleyways and watching... waiting for a chance to strike. Everything seemed amazing... everything seemed so perfect. "Welcome to Capital City!" a man called, walking over and taking the young man's hand. He shook his hand and smiled, nodding to him. "Hello!" the young man said with a smile, shaking his hand back. "My name's Adam The Magnet, who are you?" The man chuckled, patting the young Adam on the shoulder. "Magnet, huh? So you can control magnetic objects... a very useful power. You'll do fine here, don't worry. And as to who I am, well... you'll see in due time young friend. Until then however, enjoy your stay in Capital City. I hope it's a good one for you." The man walked off, leaving Adam both confused and happy at the same time. The people here were friendly, this was the perfect place for him to make a name for himself. Months passed on as Adam fought villain after villain, gaining the respect of fellow heroes and the citizens alike. He felt as though Capital City was his one true home, he knew almost everything there was about the place. But there was one place he'd never visited... Capital City park. He was always so busy making a name for himself he never thought to take a break and relax, but on this particular day where villain ativity was at a low point... he felt it best to have a little vacation. He entered the park, looking around and smiling. Children were playing, couples walking hand in hand... everything seemed so peaceful. Adam walked around the park, enjoying the scenery. However, a particular item in the park continued to catch his attention, it was the statue of a hero in the middle of the park. He figured it was Capital City's first hero and decided he'd go back to it later, but eventually the need to see who it was overcame him as he walked towards the statue, looking down at the gold plate at it's base. On it were the words written by the mayor himself on that fateful day when Capital City almost met it's end... Capital City Park: In dedication to perhaps one of the greatest heroes Capital City has ever had... Dominic Pericolo. He put his life on the line to combat our once great hero Dillon Death, and succeeded in saving us all from destruction. He will forever be remembered and respected amongst the people of Capital City, and has all of our thanks. Adam smiled, this man must have been an amazing hero to receive such an honor... a statue in Capital City park. Adam could only dream of the day something like that happened to him. He looked up at the statue and blinked, the man seemed so familiar... as though he'd seen him somewhere. When Adam went home that night he still couldn't figure it out, it felt as though he knew him and yet he couldn't pinpoint where from. The following day came and Adam put the statue in the back of his mind. Later that day he faced his greatest opposition yet... finding himself on the losing side of the battle however he began to panic, a rookie mistake. He closed his eyes as the villain hovered over him, ready to strike the killing blow... But it never happened. Adam looked up to see none other then Dominic Pericolo tackle the villain into a nearby wall, driving forth an array of punches and energy shots, weakening the villain to the point of submission and slapping a set of handcuffs on him. Dominic lifted the villain up onto his shoulder and turned to the shocked Adam, the battle had ended so quickly that he could hardly tell it even ever began. "Oh! Hey kid... good to see you again. I hope Capital City's treating you well, if you'll excuse me I'll go ahead and take this guy down to the jailhouse for ya'. You did a good job kid, he was just a little above your league. Don't worry, you'll be able to handle guys like this one day. Hell, maybe one day you'll even be in my league... I'll be looking forward to it." Dominic said, smiling. With that, he flew off with the villain in tow, leaving the shocked Adam speachless. 'That was the man who first greated me when I came here... that was Dominic Pericolo.' Adam looked to the sky, watching Dominic fly off. He smiled, waving him goodbye before lowering his head back down and walking away, a huge smile on his face. "Maybe one day... I can be just like him." Adam whispered, laughing happily. Dominic Pericolo... savior of Capital City. And he thought Adam could one day be in his league. Adam saw a villain preparing to rob the Capital City bank and grinned, cracking his knuckles. "This one's for you, Dominic... thanks for the good wishes." Adam said, before charging into battle. |
