When Realities and Dreams Aren't So Different Anymore
A symphony of light exploded through the gates of the heavens, cascading out into the Earth's sky and lighting it up like a Roman Candle. For an instant, it appeared as though the sky itself had been lit afire, and to the humans in that instant... it was doomsday. Science would later explain that atmospherical changes were the cause of the brief, violent change of color in the sky... it was the human's attempts at quieting mass hysteria. What they didn't know was the raw power of the heavens themselves was being unleashed onto four lone angels, four wandering souls searching for an answer. Screams of pain unlike any ever heard before broke through the night sky, as all four felt something they'd never felt before. It wasn't a physical pain, and the pain wasn't just mental... this pain was spiritual, the ultimate judgement on their souls. "It's... too much!!" Ash screamed through tightly clenched teeth. He had his arms crossed in front of his face, struggling to keep the light from blinding him as it was the others around him. "I CAN'T... SEE... SHIT!!" shouted Perry as he tried to cover his eyes in pain, coughing and sputtering up blood in the process however. He could actually feel his wings being torn from him as he struggled to maintain his footing. Yet as much horror as he was facing... it was Durst who was suffering the most. The strongest of the angels was forcing himself forward, fighting the explosive force of the light of the heavens, refusing to say die to the strength of God himself. Dominic tried to reach out and stop him, but found the light flooding into his eyes once again. In an instant he was clutching at his eyes once again, as he heard one of the most horrific sounds ever to pass through his ears. It was the sound of a body being torn to shreds. "OH JESUS CHRIST!" screamed Shane Perry at the top of his lungs, as he felt pieces of Durst's wings smashing against him, blood spattering across his face. "That's... ugh, UGH!! I'm going to be fucking SICK!!" Yet the vomit never had the chance to surface for Perry, his last words a constant reminder to the horrors that were happening beside them. In an instant, he too was torn to shreds before his fellow angels... and this time Dominic had saw it all. "Oh my God... " he whispered, feeling the pressure slowly getting to him. With tears in his eyes he looked forward, uncovering his eyes slowly and allowing himself to stare directly into the light. From there... it was all a blur. In one moment he thought that his eyes were being burned in their very sockets, melting into his skull inevitably to drip through in a sickening display of failure. Yet, in the next moment... the light vanished. All that was left was an echoing scream and the stains of blood leading from the clouds at the entrance back down towards the stairway. Ash, the last remaining angel alongside Dominic, was no longer there. Dominic collapsed to the ground, looking through the gates of heaven and slowly looking around him, panting heavily. He could feel bits of his wings severed slightly, and the pain was excruciating. Yet if what he thought was true... it would be worth it. In his final words before unconsciousness, Dominic lifted his head one more time. In his mind, he was staring into the eyes of God, asking him the very question he'd wanted to be true ever since Sean Galen's fall... |
