act 10: salvation
--------------------------------------
There was no longer a darkness, nor a blinding ray of light.
No longer trees nor meadows nor peaceful, calming skies.
There was just a floor, some walls, and two people standing within as they looked each other in the eye. One of them, knowing all along the decisions in which the other would make. The other one, finally coming to the reveleation he'd been seeking ever since he began to realize what had to be done. It was only a matter of time until they reached this point-- where the three paths faded away and the third unwalked path would stand alone, waiting for the chooser to take his first footsteps over it.
Yet now wasn't the time... now was the time for discussion. A holy revelation was to be had for those who walked the steps of the mighty, and who brought themselves closer to the kingdom of God by choosing the right path.
"So you finally made it..." smiled the Son of God, Jesus Christ, as he carefully sat down on the cushioned chair behind him. Dominic Pericolo, still dressed in his street clothes, drastically contrasted the appearance of Jesus-- who wore robes of bright white cloth, soft golden silk running over the chest and shoulders.
"Don't ask about the look," Jesus chuckled, looking down, "I just wanted to get a little comfortable. Shephard's clothing can get a bit itchy sometimes."
Dominic smiled.
It wasn't as hard now to accept this as Jesus claimed it to be-- a trip in Dominic's mind to the spiritual realm, and not just a dream. After having learnt so much from all of this... he just let himself listen and learn from what there was to be offered.
And there was much to offer this time... because now the time for victory was at hand.
"Tell me, Dominic... why did you choose the pathway to heaven?" Jesus whispered, watching as Dominic sat down across from him in his own cushioned chair, a peaceful look on his face.
"It certainly wasn't for the women," Dominic chuckled, bringing a laugh from Christ's mouth as he clapped his hands and smiled broadly at Dominic, nodding his head.
"My jokes have rubbed off on you, I see." he said, before waving his hand and simply saying, "Continue."
"Well.." Dominic began, "I do admit that many would only consider it the true path to follow. Why would you choose any other over it, right? Yet I realize how easy it could be for me to just give up and give in to either Hell or Purgatory, and just end it all in a short ammount of time. Look at the path to heaven though, look at how hard it is to walk it... I can't even step foot on it yet because I'm not yet ready, though I've made the decision to be. To walk down the path to heaven... to win this Sunday and to bring my life a step higher in this world and my heart a step closer to God? That's what I want... that's why I chose the path. The outcome is worth the trials to go through... and the trials are fitting for a Pericolo."
"Because Pericolo's never give up, they never say die." Jesus quoted Dominic's family motto, shaking his head in amusement, "I'm glad to have you be apart of us, Dominic... you truly are one of the better ones. There's so many now that come into our grace yet abuse it so greatly... that our eternal forgiveness and love for them is something to be pushed and played with. You don't test this... you simply test yourself."
Dominic lifted his head to look up at the ceiling of the room, letting a sigh escape his lips as he contemplated what all he could say to Jesus that would continue to help himself in growing ready for the journey ahead... yet he'd said all he could.
The time for talking was gone.
The time for learning was fast approaching.
"Dominic... I want to tell you something," Jesus said, adjusting his position in the seat he rested on, "If you walk this path as you wish to... it won't promise you victory this Sunday. That, just as with your destiny, is something you have to decide on. I can't interfere... I can only guide you. I won't be there hovering over you with a steel chair in hand, ready to take the other two out should things begin to get too rough for you. You have to go through that all on your own, Dominic... and whatever the outcome is, you can't give up faith. You can still lose that match and walk the pathway of heaven, you just have to remember that should it happen."
"I won't let it happen, Jesus," Dominic kindly interrupted, a smile forming on his features, "But if it does somehow happen... I won't stray anymore. I can't let myself continue to make the mistakes that I've regretted making all this time."
Dominic had something to be very proud of, and he knew it.
He'd finally fought off the fear that had been holding him back this entire time.
He'd finally shaken the shackles that bound him behind in the race against Bucky Skyler and Shane Perry.
Now he was free to roam... to not only walk the path, but to sprint the whole way down it.
He was ready for anything and everything that was promised to come his way-- both the good and the bad.
And, most importantly... he was saved from a potential failure that would have haunted him for the rest of his life.
Dominic took a deep breath, looking over to the smiling Savior who slowly stoof from his chair, making his way across the room to Dominic, and holding out his hand to place it gently onto his shoulder.
"Congratulations, Dominic..." Jesus spoke, lifting his free hand to the ceiling above, which suddenly began to fade into that beautiful sky that hovered over the three paths Dominic had witnessed with each of the prior dreams, "You're ready to walk the only path worth walking."
The walls around them crumbled and faded away, taken over by the beauty of the meadows surrounding and the trees which grew from the ground and gently rocked in the calming breeze that passed the two by.
Now it was time to see what his future would hold... now it was time to realize his destiny.
"Thank you for helping me..." Dominic spoke greatfully to the Messiah, "Thank you so much."
"I was here to guide you, Dominic... my help for you is always here. There's no thanks neccesary at all." came the response from Jesus, who then held his arm out in the direction of the one road before them, "Now go on... walk the path. You've earned it, my brother."
It was now, within the moments of this dream, that Dominic knew he would come to a new understanding.
A new way of living.
Salvation from the darkness which had plagued him ever since that day just a few weeks ago.
'Finally...' he thought to himself, as he began to walk towards the path which awaited him, 'I really, truly did it...'
