[FADE IN. Karl “The Dragon” Brown is standing dressed in his usual casual attire, his back to a tree. He’s in the middle of a wood, as we’ve come to expect of him]

Karl: History seems to like repeating itself. We’ve got Adam Benjamin using history to show he’ll win the TV title, because he did beat me at last years Black Dawn to win the Intercontinental belt. We’ve got Christian Sands being his usual poser tough-guy self trying to get under Beasts’ skin. We’ve got Beast being unprofessional enough to let the mind games of Sands and Ryan get to him. Blitz are again in a tag team title match, and John Doe being John Doe.

And, of course, I’ve got the honour of fighting for the Intercontinental Title for the second straight Black Dawn.

It’s been almost two years since I made my debut. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve fought in tournaments, number one contender’s matches and title matches - and as yet, I’ve failed to win a title. Some would call me a choker based on history.

The thing is, history is something to learn from. It doesn’t repeat itself the same way.

Adam Benjamin, if history were to repeat itself, stands no chance of winning the TV title – his only two titles to date were both won at my expense.

If history were to repeat itself, Sands would be though of as cool, rather than a poser. Beast would be a professional.

And Dodd would have no problem in this match. After all, he’s beaten me once already.

Poor, deluded Dodd. History is a tool, a reference point. It shows where we came from, and how we got to where we are. You arrived at this point by losing, I by winning. The momentum going into Black Dawn, even though it’s been months since either of us wrestled on EPW TV, is in my favour.

You’re right - that’s not a guarantee of me walking away with the title around my waist.

But nor is it a guarantee you’ll be leaving with the belt.

[Karl lets that settle in. Somewhere in the distance, a gunshot is heard, and the sudden flap of a flock of wings rises from the undergrowth deeper in the woodland]

Karl: By all rights, Sebastian, this match shouldn’t be happening. We should have met at Russian Roulette. But, Eric Davis decided to try and make a name for himself.

I beat him.

The Aggression following, I faced John Byrnes.

I beat him.

The next time I set foot in the ring, I squared off against some of the toughest wrestlers on the planet and finished fourth in a one night tournament that included Lindsay Troy.

And you? You faced the man Dan Ryan named as my replacement in a match for the IC title as I took time off to rest my knee.

You lost.

Yet, you thought you deserved a rematch? Where was Adam Benjamin’s rematch when Jonathan Marx beat him at Unleashed? Where were the rematches for the tag team titles?

Losing a title doesn’t mean you get a rematch, Dodd. You have to earn the right to face a champion. A right I earned. If losing is what it takes to get a title match around here, I pity you. You’ve been losing so much I’m surprised you don’t have a world title match coming up.

But then people might keep thinking you’re better than you are.

Enjoy your moment in the spotlight, Sebastian. When this match is over, and you lay beaten and bloodied in the middle of that ring, there isn’t a promoter in the world who is going to want to risk you any higher than the opening match.

Looks like I’ll be keeping my promise to Issac after all.
