WRESTLER INFORMATION:

Name: Coral Avalon
Nicknames: None

Height: 6'
Weight: 224 lbs.
Handedness: Left) Right
Looks:
Coral Avalon has black hair that runs to his shoulders, which is fairly straight and evenly cut. He has blue eyes, a thin nose, and a rounded jaw. He tends to look like one of those average black-haired pretty boys, except he's more quiet and thoughtful than most.

Coral doesn't have a very intimidating build, but he is taller and slightly better built than the Codemaster is. He has some muscle definition, but he looks nothing like the body builders that populate WWE and he's built more to endure rather than to show off. He has no scars or tattoos on his body.

Hailing From: New Orleans, Louisiana

Disposition: Face
Gimmick: Coral does not have a true "gimmick". In the ring, he is very honorable and adheres to a code of law at all times (even at times that it might be disadvantageous to him), which includes: No cheating, no weapon use, no cursing, no striking women, no head-dropping moves.

Ring Attire:
Coral does not wear a shirt in the ring. He wears two normal elbow pads on his arms, both just plain back. He wears a pair of black wristbands. He wears black shorts with a blue trim. On the middle of the top of the pants(crotch area), there should be a lighter blue squiggly "C" on the top left, then to the bottom and to the right of the squiggly "C" should be a squiggly "A", same color. He wears a pair of black boots with blue shinguards on them.

Theme Music: "Won't Back Down" by Fuel
Ring Entrance: Uh, he simply walks to the ring. Nothing fancy, really.

Tactics/Style:
Coral's style took a turn to a more ground based style about three years ago when he realized that he would eventually injure himself if he continued to wrestle a more spot-oriented style. He is more methodical in the ring, utilizing his mat skills to keep an opponent on the mat in the beginning of the match. He is undefeated as an amateur wrestler, so his skills on the mat are very tough and could probably only be matched by a Youngblood or a Deville.

Coral's main offensive weapon is the backbreaker, and he has many variations of it for use in a match. He uses more standard ones when he initially controls a match, and the most common you may see are the pendulum, tilt-a-whirl, Dragon, and double underhook backbreakers. He is strong enough to lift a 270 pound man with any lifting backbreaker, but he must use leverage if he wishes to use it on a heavier man, and he has to avoid using them on extremely large men in excess of 350 pounds for fear of injuring his own knee.

Because of Coral's natural ability to use the backbreaker, he mainly focuses on smashing an opponent's back if he knows of no other weakness in the opponent. Against larger men, he will opt for a knee or ankle and work towards an anklelock.

Weakening the back allows Avalon to much more easilly lock in his Koji Clutch.

Coral has naturally good speed, but he's slowed down as he's culled his wrestling style away from the explosive highspots that highlighted his career in Action! and the Squared Circle to avoid any major injuries to his body (ie: he's seen what the business has done to other high flyers). Coral is still explosively fast when needed, but overall he is not as quick as he once was.

Because Coral has culled his style away from explosive highspots, he no longer does attacks from the top rope outside of his frog splash. He still uses springboards, however, but does so to catch an opponent off guard from time to time.

Strengths:
1) Coral's an excellent wrestling-based star. He is adept at pretty much any style, from brawling to high flying to submission.

2) When it comes to wrestling, Coral's memory is almost eidetic. He has the ability to remember anything he's seen of his opponent if he's wrestled more than one match with them, and this ability serves him well in avoiding potentially finishing maneuvers that he's lost to in the past.

3) Coral has an incredible endurance that allows him to withstand longer matches than most. Part of this comes from the downright cruel training he received from Joey Malone.

Weaknessess:
1) Coral doesn't do anything that would otherwise be illegal in the confines of a normal contest. This has the unfortunate inclusion of weaponry, which he doesn't use even when the rules permit and even encourage their use. In other words, no matter the situation, Coral is never going to be seen swinging a weapon around, even in hardcore matches. He believes very strongly that his own body is enough to get him through a match of any kind.

Coral has paid the price for this mentality, as he suffered numerous injuries in the Gimmick Hell Match at ACW Legends. At the same time, he has earned the respect of quite a few hardcore wrestlers because he was tough enough to survive and even win Gimmick Hell without using a weapon.

Note that this weakness doesn't apply to ladder matches, as he does use the ladder to set up spots. He does not, however, directly use the ladder to attack.

2) Coral has the unfortunate tendency to piss off his opponents through the use of his knowledge of his opponents beforehand. That is to say that if he's fighting Nova, he may use moves more associated with Brandon Youngblood, such as his spinebuster and his Gridlock, depending on what he feels is more effective against them.

Depending on the opponent, this could serve to completely annoy them, and thus serve to get Coral punished more.

3) It is entirely possible to "short circuit" Coral's knowledge of you before a rematch against him.

This is to say that because Coral is often expecting you to come at him with the same stuff you used against him in the first encounter, you can catch him off guard by attack him with moves or tactics that he didn't catch in the first encounter.

Also, if he catches on in your trying to beat him the same way the last time you faced him, you can always try a different move to put him away. Unless you're one of those one trick ponies who can only finish a match with their finisher, in which case, you're probably in a lot of trouble.

MATCHWRITING GUIDE:

Don't take this moveset as the absolute gospel. Coral can do more than this, I'm just hitting the more common stuff he might use. Once in a while, he could surprise you. The only moves off-limits by any means are moves that would otherwise drop the victim on their head (ie: piledrivers and the like), illegal moves, and moves that would otherwise be out of character for him (ie: I don't think I've ever had Coral use a regular powerbomb that didn't involve him powerbombing them into a turnbuckle.).

As stated before, Coral's main area of focus is the back, which is why he employs numerous backbreakers in his arsenal. However, he doesn't only use backbreakers, so don't think it's the only thing he's capable of.

Early-Stage Moves (and moves that can be done at any point):
European uppercut, knife-hand chop, kick to the leg, kick to the ribs, enzuigiri, snapmare, armdrag, back body drop, dropkick, hurricanrana, fireman's carry, various basic submissions, various cradles

Controlling Moves:
- Many backbreakers, including the following (pendulum, tilt-a-whirl, double underhook, Dragon, fireman's carry into, Lungblower, Canadian backbreaker, Argentine backbreaker, hip toss, and STO backbreaker)

- Other moves include: snap suplex, belly-to-belly overhead suplex, stungun, short arm clothesline, springboard dropkick, fireman's carry gutbuster, dragon screw, Henning kneebreaker, chop block, single arm DDT, jujigatame, bow-and-arrow backbreaker, camel clutch, half Boston crab (often with a foot jammed in the back of the knee).

Late-Stage Moves:
- Many more (stronger) backbreakers, including the following (Vertical suplex into, cradle suplex into, urange into, leg capture backbreaker, half nelson backbreaker, Colt 45, Asai moonsault into dragon backbreaker)
- Other moves include: Superplex, superkick, inverted Atomic drop, wheelbarrow suplex (usually snapped off very quickly), wheelbarrow powerbomb, crossface chickenwing, reverse hizajujigatame, rear naked choke (ie: Coquina Clutch), triangle choke, Flatliner (main setup to the Koji Clutch).

Near-Falls, Close Calls, And Alternate Finishers:
- Frog Splash
- Unprettier
- Liontamer
- Anklelock

Keep in mind that so long as it makes sense, Coral can pretty much finish with anything he's got.

For instance, if he's been smashing the opponent in the back for the entirety of the match, one of his backbreakers could easilly finish the match if it hits hard enough. If it comes suddenly enough, a superkick or a stungun can also bring about a quick end to a match.

The reason why I single out the above four moves is because of personal preference (and also, this writer is a big fan of the four wrestlers most closely associated with those moves: Eddie Guerrero, Christian Cage, Chris Jericho, and Kurt Angle), though Coral won many of his fWo and ACW matches using the frog splash, and thus it is technically already established as a finisher.

I do this because I think it's neat for matches to end on anything other than an established finisher or a rollup, because that adds another move that is established in the minds of the fans as something that can end a match. Samoa Joe does it. Austin Aries does it. Alex Shelley does it. Even the Rock did it.

Finishers:
- Koji Clutch
This is Coral's preferred submission finisher.

Coral is on his back with his opponent on his belly and beside Coral. Coral moves his far leg (usually his left, but Coral can apply it from either side of the victim) over and in front of the victim's face. At the same time, Coral wraps his arms around the back of the victim's neck. Coral then pushes his leg while pulling the neck at the same time, creating a crushing pressure that creates a kind of a legal choke in the vein of the Triangle Choke.

First appearing in his ACW run, the Clutch was responsible for nearly half of Coral's victories (the Frog Splash being the other half) since its debut. The hold is currently extremely difficult to break, but since I've now seen it done, it's not impossible.

The main goal of Coral working the back instead of the neck to set this hold up is to hamper the opponent's breathing and ability to simply power out. Coral isn't a very big guy, so it would normally be possible to power out of the hold if he applied it early in the contest. However, by smashing the opponent in the back in any method he can afford, Coral removes their ability to carry his weight and he also removes a lot of their stamina, which is rapidly depleted the longer he holds on to the Koji Clutch.

What results is that Coral Avalon has a very deadly submission hold that he doesn't even bother renaming for his own purposes. Also, he's been using the hold longer than Lindsay Troy has, making him more of an expert on its application.

The flaw to the Koji Clutch is its predictability. As it requires a fairly specific positioning (Coral on his back, opponent on their belly but with Coral's arm underneath them), there are few ways to put them in that sort of position. It's very obvious he's going for the Koji Clutch if he hits you with a Flatliner or a single arm DDT, so Coral's leg can be blocked if you're still able to move.

Coral can use the Koji Clutch to counter a desperation pin (ie: single arm draped on top of him).

- Ratings Spike
This is Coral's main pinfall finisher.

It is another Christopher Daniels ripoff, the Last Rites. Coral grabs the victim in an inverted facelock and then rolls under them to complete a neckbreaker. It is the last holdover from Coral's "Kleptomaniac" gimmick, where he stole finishers from other, more well-established wrestlers. He took this from former fWo World Heavyweight Champion, Ruben Ross, but he's been using it longer than Ross has (and by and large, Coral has mastered it better) and therefore it's his now.

The trick that Coral has behind this move isn't that it's powerful, but that Coral has mastered the art of putting an opponent into an inverted facelock from out of nowhere. He can flip over an opponent, flip them over, twist around, and generally just find ways to put them in the position. On top of that, his execution of this move is smooth and swift, often enough to catch the victim by surprise long enough to get the three.

It can be kicked out of in big match situations, but the move is usually enough to get the duke in a regular match.

Coral cannot use this move on opponents who are significantly taller than himself, and must resort to the Tornado Spike to win the match if he is to use it.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
Coral Avalon is the second-youngest child of Irene and Jonathan Avalon, the matriarch and patriarch of a large and very wealthy family.

Unlike the Codemaster, one could say that Coral always had the drive to become a professional wrestler. His only trouble was that his mother forbade him from it, and even when Coral became a highly successful amateur wrestler in high school, his mother kept him from winning any championships by forcing him to stay home.

Eventually, when Coral turned eighteen, he left home and ended up trained in becoming a professional wrestler.

Coral made his initial impact in Action! Wrestling, and became embroiled in a long feud with "the Original" Jeff Garvin. Bad blood continues to flow between the two wrestlers to this day, even more than four years after the feud started. Though Coral continued to chase after World titles, he has yet to have won one, and has had very few defining career moments.

Coral's love life has hit a few strange turns. He was first dating a girl named Allison Lindum, the younger sister of the wife of Joey Malone. However, the two of them broke up when Allison grew tired of Coral's nature, and Allison eventually began dating and eventually married Keith Scott Zimmerman. Later, Coral started dating Patricia Grayson, a referee from Action! who later got a job with the Squared Circle.

However, it was during this time that Coral met a young and beautiful violin player named Annabelle Summers, who developed a crush on him. Eventually, Coral grew affectionate of her as well, and eventually chose to stay with her.

This decision changed his life, possibly for the better, as he became closer to her than he has with any other woman he ever loved. In so doing, Coral left the United States to go train at the country that Annabelle loved, Japan, in order to become an even better wrestler. He has now returned, back in the company of his former allies, the Blue Rogues, in order to test his mettle against other wrestlers.
