"Endorsements are where they moneys at these days"
(FADEIN ANDY MARTINEZ swung around 180 degrees in his large "boss chair" in his glass accented, all white office with his desk phone to his ear. Andy had made a name for him the past couple of months and helped to establish his agency, MARTINEZ INC. which had only recently merged with a Los Angeles based agency representing some of the best young talent in the NBA, NFL and MLB. Andy made his name in the wrestling business working with and around among the best promoters, some who were responsible for companies like - PIW, PRIME and ACW. Andy even represented some talent that slummed all the way down to the level of the Asylum.)
(He wouldn't look twice at them, these days though.)
(But for whatever reason, Andy was driven and inspired to have an old friend and long-time client, Brock Alyas turn his career around. Andy was the typical agent. He put his sentances together with ease and came off like a smartass. He pretended to care and did a good job of it. His friendship with Brock was much more evident than the responsibility he took for Brock's career, especially through the encarcerations and some of Brock's mishaps through late 2008 early 2009. Andy, sort of slipped away but since Brock's shown an attempt to recreate himself, Andy's been nothing but supportive and tried to help not only his client, but his good friend sail smooth.)
MARTINEZ "Endorsements are where they money's at these days in entertainment, BROCK."
(SPLITSCREEN to BROCK ALYAS, also with the phone to his ear reading, leaning over a kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal.)
ALYAS "I don't know. I made a name for myself in this league getting money any way. Finding ways. It was my motivation and drive. Now, I realize it's not about that. I don't need the flashy cars and I certainly don't have any addictions I need to continue to feed."
MARTINEZ "And look how far we've come since then. Look, nobodies trying to make you do something you wouldn't have done say, a year ago. But let's be honest with eachother, Brock - we're both a little embarassed of who you were around this time a year ago. All I'm saying is, it couldn't hurt to have a little recognition, get the name out there. Prove to the crowd that you're not just a recluse anymore. How do we do that? We show them that successful companies have money invested in your name."
(SINGLESCREEN BROCK stopped eating and paused, looking rather interested.)
ALYAS "What kind of companies?"
MARTINEZ "Well, right now I've got a contact who owns a clothing line - RUTHLESS rags&denimco. and he wants to expand his company and start supplying wrestlers and mixed martial arts fighters with their training apparel. He wants you to poster his expansion and he's interested in your influence in midwest America and the underground wrestling community... feeling as if they're a main audience that he'd like to tap into. He see's your struggles with sobriety and has told me he's got visions of commercials and montage's of your comeback. Youtube caught wind of some of your rehab workouts and they've received quite a bit of attention. He wants to use some footage like that and make a music video out of it."
ALYAS "Fucking music video? What are you trying to get me into? I'm not one of your NBA athletes that REALLY aspire to be a pop idol, Andy. I'm not going to sell my dignity to this guy so he can make me out to look the way he wants his company to. I won't do it."
MARTINEZ "Relax. You think I'd set you up to be made out to look like a fool? This companies going to be a hit, everybody from MMA fighters to your street corner pharmacists are going to be wearing this line. Especially with you on the poster."
ALYAS "See, that's the type of image I'm trying to avoid. I've got love for the way I grew up and the struggle, but I can't be acting like I'm still in the streets of Detroit on camera man. The NFW ain't like it used to be, there's rules, structure now."
MARTINEZ "But it'll be subliminally that you attract these crowds. Everybody still has love for you man. You've still got juice in the 'hood, you've just taken a different route. People respect you thugged it out on camera for as long as you did. I guarentee after you string a couple wins together, you'll be turning former NFW fans back into die hards. How do you think management over there will think of you when you're boosting ticket and merchandise sales around the mid west. Plus, he allready told me that NFW will get 7.5% of all of the earnings you make from him, ON TOP of the salary he's paying you. They could double profit off of selling his t-shirts at the shows!"
ALYAS "Well, I've got to worry about getting a few of those wins before I paste my face on this company. Defenitely let him know I'm interested, I've just got some obligations to NFW and people I've got to talk to first. Have him send me a few hoodies and we'll see if his product is something I actually like."
FADE.
