Hey all.

I'm putting out this poll because I've been thinking about something that Holzerman wrote in one of his blog entries.

Matchwriting. More specifcally, shortforming.

At first I wasn't too keen on it. But my stubbornness has already led to huge delays in NEW's cards getting out. So .. I'm putting out this poll to see what you guys think. It's not a clicky poll, because I want to see each person's response.

Here are the choices:

A) **** shortforming. Keep all the cards (except RAPTURE) long form.

B) Shortform RAUCOUS and RAPTURE completely, leaving only PPVs to be in long form.

C) Shortform RAPTURE and most of RAUCOUS, except for the main event of the show, and longform the PPVs.

- Right now I am leaning towards option C. I think shortforming RAUCOUSes and just leaving the main event to be in longform would be beneficial. I am definitely leaning towards shortforming in general because I think it would help get NEW back on its footing after all the delays we've had.

As you can see I've fallen back into this bad habit of delaying a card much too long. I think shortforming after BattleBRAWL 2 would be the best thing for NEW right now. I'm not saying it will be permanent.. but until we can get a stable roster (let's face it .. NEW has the largest turnover on FWCentral by far) it is something that needs to be done.

If I had the time to be able to sit around and write out all the shows like I was able to the first 8 months of NEW, I would .. but we're almost heading into our fourth year .. and quite frankly the second and third year were plagued by my delays.

I did want to put it to a vote because I don't want to make a unilateral decision. So please let me know your thoughts on the question.

I'm not really put out by the delays, but if it must be done I think I'd rather see the entire card shortformed (All it takes is one match to be delayed to delay the entire card after all). There's also no guaranteeing that shortforming will stop the delays either. I've seen completely shortform based feds fall apart due to delays.

Just what I've seen. I've no experience with managing a fed so go with whatever method you think you can handle without the long delays.

I think shortforming might be a good idea to get New ERA back on track - especially if people are encouraged to submit angles and storylines. Having as many matches full-form as possible is nice, but PPV's and possibly big matches on RAUCOUS are the only ones that I'd fully expect. The only other option I can see is to build a match-writing team, but as EPW has found even that doesn't guarantee faster turnaround.

So in short - I've no problem with shortforming :)

Yea .. the shortforming would hopefully not be permanent. Maybe we would do it until I have a group of 2 to 3 people who could help w/ writing matches each RAUCOUS.. but right now I think it would be good to just shortform for a bit to get the roster stabilized and get cards back out.

The shortforming would be like the current RAPTURES have been.

I kind of thought I had responded to this already... oh well, sorry about that!

I'm in favor of option C. I think it makes sense to go the short-form route. I wouldn't especially mind it, either, as I actually enjoy the short-form synopses. Not that I don't enjoy the full matches, of course, but I think the short-forms have been of good quality. They remind me of GLCWs Wired shows from a couple years back.

Also, by making one match highlighted on RAUCOUS by giving it the full treatment, I think it could do well to hype and spotlight certain feuds that could use it. This might be a bit too unorthodox, but I don't believe the Main Event would automatically be the full form match. If a particular mid- or upper midcard feud is hot, you could select that as the match to write out in full form for the week.

On the other hand, you could just put that feud in the Main Event spot for the week, and write it out in full form. Then the Main Event would be the match written in full form. It's essentially the same idea, done two different ways, I guess. But I think it would work well.

There's my two cents. In the end, I'll be chill with whatever is decided. As long as something is done. ;)

Short-forming sounds logical, but...

Would NEW be the same without Tom and Nick's constant bantering?

Here was my idea for EUWC (oddly enough, three feds I'm in, in the course of two weeks, have brought this question to light about short-forming matches to get results out on time)...

Let's say the TV network has decided to cut NEW's airtime to half what it is. So, for example, the event would being at, say, 9 PM... but the televised segment would go live at 10. During this first hour would be the bulk of under and midcard matches. So, RAUCOUS would start off with the commentators welcoming viewers, then recapping the past action.

The matches go by in highlight form, maybe five or six spots. The commentators do their thing while this is going on. Show the finish, and that's that. Not too different from how Holzerman does it with TEAM. Meanwhile, between match recaps, you can do some backstage plugs.

But for the major matches, such as the main event and maybe one big card match that highlights a feud or a title match, leave them in long form. At this point, the televised show would catch up to the live action.

Hmm...I do rather like that idea. I have to admit there are a few matches that just wouldn't be the same in shortform.

That's right! I changed my mind. Wanna fight about it?

How did I not see this 4ish days ago?...
