As it stands right now, I have nine teams and only one possible feeler for another one to come in. That other team is more than likely not going to come in, so I have a dilemma. Nine is not only NOT a multiple of four, but it's also not even an even number (PUN INTENDED ). That presents a huge problem. So, I'm going to present this in poll format, since I am a man of the peeps and I want to see what you guys think is best for you.
Option #1 - Three brackets of three teams, one team per bracket gets a bye each week.
Pros - The bye may be strategically important to the team getting it that week, fewer results to write.
Cons - Inactivity is the devil's best friend, people may become forgetful.
Option #2 - Three brackets of three teams, the odd teams out in each bracket face off in a special "three way" match.
Pros - Keeps everyone busy, novel concept that could be really cool to pull off.
Cons - The logistics would be insane. INSANE I SAY!
Option #3 - Cut a team from the running
Pros - Gives us two brackets of four, nice, even and good to work with.
Cons - How in the hell am I going to decide who gets the ax? Plus, it goes against the all-inclusive nature of TEAM
Option #4 - Creation of 1-3 NPC teams in the vein of RDJW last year.
Pros - Keeps people busy and informed each week, gives each team a mulligan win if they just post one RP
Cons - Adds more clutter to the writeups, it's embarrassing as hell when people no-show against them, people may take them too lightly, forget to RP and then get their game thrown off the entire tournament, puts more of a strain on me
Option #5 - Allow mongrel/free agent/cross-promotional teams
Pros - Allows people to participate in the tournament even if they're the only ones in their fed who do, fills out the brackets nicely without resorting to cheap parlor tricks or byes
Cons - Destroys the fiber upon which the tournament was built, sets a bad precedent for future tournaments where demand is better.
Of course, none of these could be necessary if I get 1-7 teams to sign up between now and Saturday. However, it's good to have contingiency in place. Plus, it gives people a chance to argue over theory, which is always a great idea and never leads to flame fests ever
