[FADE IN. “The Dragon”, the long-reigning Empire Pro Wrestling Intercontinental Champion, is standing in his street clothes before an EPW: Russian Roulette backdrop, his Intercontinental championship belt over his left shoulder]

Karl: In defeat, there is something to be learned. There is no book so bad that there is no use in studying from it. No matter how you want to put it, life is a lesson. A quest for improvement before whatever post-life experience you feel awaits you. Improvement is something everyone can do, even if some choose to think otherwise. There is not one person alive who does not have the potential to be more than they are; it’s whether they use that potential or not, whether they can surpass it or not, that changes from individual to individual.

How you go about it differs from person to person. Some reach a certain level, then rest on their laurels. Some rise brilliantly, quickly, only to burn out and sink into obscurity, spending the rest of their careers trying to recapture that potential they realised all too soon. Others still take some time to reach their potential, but when they do, they do so consistently. Some need deception, some need tricks to try and gain a psychological advantage, but everybody in this business, and the world, has potential.

Sometimes, after a run of bad luck, of close calls and near misses, it takes a change of pace and a greater opportunity before someone fulfils their potential.

That’s what this is. Foxx’s chance to shine – to show her potential by changing from fighting for the TV title, to fighting for the Intercontinental Championship.

I’ve said since she came into the business, she works well off of others. Give her a tough opponent, and she’ll show what she can do. She’s shown so many glimpses – victories over Ninja K, over Karla Starr, over Troy Douglas and Cameron Cruise. Hard fought matches against Adam Benjamin and Shawn Hart – both former World Champions in our business.

This match should be easy for you, right?

Make sure you don’t get cocky, Foxx. This is your chance to break out on your own, but now, more than any match before, you can’t afford to make any mistakes. You’ve been in title matches, and lost simply because you made that one crucial mistake, given your opponent the chance to pin your shoulders to the mat for the three count. It’s the opportunity you’ve got to avoid giving me, and for one simple reason.

As soon as you give me that chance, the match is over.

I told you I wasn’t going to take it easy on you. Lindsay just lost her title after a little over two years, making me the champion in this company with the longest on-going reign, and I don’t intend to stop there.

You’ve done extremely well, considering you went straight in at the deep-end in a company which has a roster most would envy. Almost nowhere do you see this many top-class competitors on a card without it being a joint card, like Wrestlestock. Benjamin, Beast, Hart, Troy, Melton, Anarky, Ryan, and so many others who have had huge success world wide, and you’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with them.

If you miss this chance, there’ll be others. But with the competition heating up all the time, with more and more people coming into the company hungry for an opportunity to show what they can do, the next wait for you will likely be a very long one.

Are you going to make the best of this chance? Can you honestly say you’ll be good enough on the night to take the Intercontinental Championship from me?

Time will tell. Either way, you’re in for a lesson. Not the sort I gave you before Wrestlestock, where we worked on your basics, but a much, much more advanced one, on the biggest stage there is.

Don’t get nervous on me.
