You know the drill. I'll be back to offer my thoughts in a few, since my college finals are done till Thursday and I want to be a bum.
EDITS IN AS I READ THROUGH THE RPS (I score each RP on a scale of 1-10 and then work averages... MAX 10 MIN 0:
Jeff Andrews vs Justin Voss - I thought both guys had their strongest RPs first. Voss' first RP was a little repetitive, which is something I battle myself in RPs. I loved how he explained the mannerisms of the character, though. I thought Jeff Andrews first RP was as close to a home run as you can get without knocking it out of the park. What's more, I noticed that he laid a trap that could have been danced around by Voss or fell into... unfortunately Voss fell into it with his second RP. Andrews' second RP was solid icing on the cake. Didn't have to be a home run...
Andrews (8.0 to 5.5)
Showtime vs Jace Gryphon - Showtime's handler seems to have a great grasp of episodic writing, which is a major asset in RP-style... and it wasn't a 500-page epic novel, either. I was hanging on every word. Very funny stuff. Great characterizations and dialogue. Left me hanging with the house fire thing, but I think we'll see what happens in round 3. With Gryphon, the first RP was the worst of the two. It seemed to go in circles and was one of the "long RP for long's sake" deals. It confused me and contradicted at points. I'm not sure if Penny was a Showtime creation, but i felt like the character was done justice in Showtime's promos and torn down/hijacked in Gryphon's first promo.
Showtime (7.75 to 5.0)
Cobra vs Spike Saunders - There were 36 mentions of "Dan." 30 mentions of "Ryan." 26 mentions of "Dan Ryan." I didn't really enjoy reading either because of this, so while I believe Dan Ryan should go to the third round due to how over he was in these two's promos, I'll go with Spike Saunders.
Spike Saunders (5.6 to 5.5 )
King Krusher vs Cameron Cruise - This one was tough for me. I thought Marx beat Krusher in round one, but Krusher turned it up in the second round. His Cameron Cruise attacks were spot on and I appreciated that his background is solid and well-fleshed out, although I thought it might have been a little dry (second RP). Cruise's handler had difficulty getting his posts up, but I thought both were great replies to Krusher's first two RPs. It's really a toss up if I'm to be fair, but I think Cruise should get the win where Marx shgould have in the first round.
Cameron Cruise (6.75 to 6.5)
Sylo vs Troy Douglas - Wow. What a battle! I thought Douglas was on his game, but Sylo fought tooth and nail. Overall, this was the the highest rated RP battle in my mind. I scored it in favor of Douglas' word manipulations and cerebral RPs.
Troy Douglas (8.5 to 8)
Joey Melton vs Marcus Davis - Someone mentioned time management, but judges also said they give credit to those posting first. Melton got two wild, crazy RPs up that challenged everything people thought they knew of the tournament's criteria for winning... I wasn't really feeling the first one. It's like I get the character, yet totally don't get it. That being said, it was five days in before Marcus got anything in. Although his stuff was very good, I think Melton's craziness worked and he was able to pull it off without anything from Davis' character to go off of. I vote Melton... plus 500 XP for using Korea in an RP, factual representations be damned!
Joey Melton (7.25 to 7)
PS. I am very disappointed with the two no shows... especially Rivera's with El Gordo Grande. Really liked the character.
