WWE has started signups for their fantasy wrestling league. It is like fantasy football in that you get 20 million dollars to select any wrestler you want and you get pts based on how they do on SD, Raw and the other shows.

it is $9.95 a team with the winner getting a WWE championship replica belt with their name on it.

I'm glad I didn't go through with my plan two or three years ago to set up a similar system...otherwise I'd be on the receiving end of a WWE lawsuit, huh?

This is WHY the WWE was shutting down e-feds?! Oh Come on! What we do is for fun and for free... Since my fed opened in 1996, I have never made a dime. Meanwhile Vince is just looking to add a few more bucks in his wallet. Screw him and screw their "fantasy" league!

What!!?

$9.95 a team!? Yeah for real! People would play if they won $$$$, not a fake WWE replica belt! Like the old saying goes 'Money Talks' & Bull**** Walks!'

Besides a lot of Rp'ers on the FW roster do way better promo's than half of the roster of the entire WWE!

However I found a way to screw Vince McMahon in my own way. And get away with it! I bought a hot box that gets free PPV's!!! So I don't pay a dime, squat, zilch for his lousy PPV's! HAHAHAHA!!!!!

I showed him eh?

WWE was shutting down efeds that were using their trademarked images and likenesses. Fantasy league or not this is fully acceptable. Not like they suddenly decided to get antsy either, thier copyright statement has stated no use without approval for years now.

Note they've also been shutting down efeds that have been brought to their licensing department's attention since 1999. This was well before any efed was publicly announced.

BTW, Vince does not sweat efeds. I can pretty much assure you of that. One word should get where I'm coming from across. That word is Eugene. If his writers can rip efeds off with no worry of getting sued then why would he?

Any storyline we do is recyclable if the interest is there to do it. Keep that in mind. We use text, WWE uses money.

As to our writers cutting better promos than the roster of WWE. We are in a medium that has no television time limits and doesn't require us to have public-speaking skills or be lucky enough to have a "look" that sells. Until we work in a similar environment there is no comparison. The fact that we make no money and they do means that what they are doing sells and is in fact a better product. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be emulating them. Think about it.

Lastly, all solid fantasy leagues in other sports charge a fee for back end support. Whether that support is to chip in for a trophy or to pay for databasing and scoring.. whatever. It's a viable business model that rakes in about 34 billion dollars a year globally. So yes Vince is going to want in. He has a top five recognizable sports brand. Duh...

Voice of reason.

Al, your points on the comparison between our promos and WWE's are well founded...Copycat might have better promos than Billy Gunn, but I have the almighty Backspace key that can fix any problem. There are no cameras, no stress, just writing. And while I fancy myself a pretty good writer, doing an actual promo on TV is something completely different. Though I'd like to think I can do that too, I don't exactly have any proof.

However, when I knocked WWE's approach to fantasy leagues, I wasn't knocking it because of the contrast between our brand of FW and WWE's brand. I know a lot of fantasy sports leagues charge money so that the winner can receive an elaborate prize, but a replica belt is NOT an elaborate prize. I'd pay $20 for one. Hell, I might even go crazy and pay $30 for one. But the concept of putting down $10 for the slim chance that I might out-predict the ten zillion other people in the league just for something I value at $30 is ridiculous. The prestige involved in making accurate predictions for other fantasy sports leagues is also lessened with wrestling; you can follow statistics and have hunches that pay off big time in other fantasy sports, but the ego boost gotten from a correct wrestling prediction is much less, since statistics don't mean fnuck-all and the results are predetermined. I can see why Vince might want to get in on the lucrative fantasy-league business, but it's a short-sighted idea unlikely to succeed, and that's the last thing WWE needs right now.

Understood where you're coming from Garth..

However, I think these guys are doing the replica belts.. and since they also do the real ones.. they have *some* value as collectable, though maybe not enough to get anyone's attention.

I've done some business with Dave in the past and he's top notch. Expensive, but worth it.

Your points at your odds of getting one vs the cost you value it at are well-spoken and well-heard.

Al
