Thomas To Build
New League
|
In what
could be an odd twist of fate, it appears that CSWA co-owner and
Commissioner, Chad Merritt, may have followed through on his threat to
ban Hornet from future CSWA events.
Hornet is
not signed to appear at PRIMETIME in Phoenix. Since his
return, Hornet has been working without a contract on a show-by-show
basis. Prior to INDY2K, Commissioner Merritt was working to
force Hornet to sign a contract.
Even more
bizarre, it appears that CSWA co-owner Stephen Thomas may launch his
'counteroffensive' shortly...in the form of a new wrestling
company. Merritt and Thomas have been unable to resolve their
business differences in court-ordered mediation. It does appear
that both sides are determined to avoid a work stoppage as was ordered
in June and early July by the court.
TRIBUNE
reporters have found out that despite his 'coup' in signing former
champion Tom Adler to a CSWA contract, Thomas appears ready to launch a
league, apparently with Hornet as the cornerstone. We have not
been able to confirm that Hornet has made any sort of agreement with
Thomas.
Sources
did confirm that both Thomas and Merritt have been in touch with former
CSWA staffers, apparently in an attempt to solidify their positions
before the other does.
Phoenix Rising
The CSWA
continues its western swing with CSWA PRIMETIME in Phoenix at the
America West Arena. While only the Greensboro Title is up for
grabs in an INDY2K rematch between Cardigo Mysterian and former
champ Wicked Sight, the rest of the card features some interesting
twists.
Mike
Randalls takes on Lawrence Stanley, although we've received no word that
the US Title is involved in the match. While Randalls did
apparently 'defeat' CSWA Presidential Champion Alex Wylde at INDY2K,
it is doubtful that the CSWA Championship Committee would give him a
shot at the United States Championship without further proof that he has
not lost a step.
Another INDY2K
rematch features Havoc against Bobby Jackson; Chris Petty will
apparently get his first shot at revenge against Brian Blair in a tag
match...although Blair's partner is a mystery.
In the
MAIN EVENT, former US Champions collide as Kevin Powers and Steve
Radder meet following their out-of-ring collision at INDY2K
which cost Radder a shot at the CSWA World Championship.
In news
that might interest Powers, Commissioner Merritt will make announcements
concerning the Unified Tag Team Titles. We're also told he will
address the Hornet and Thomas situations, which may be one in the
same. He may also announce upcoming matches for the next CSWA PPV,
CSWA ANNIVERSARY 2000.
ANNIVERSARY Tradition
It
shouldn't be any surprise that the CSWA's annual ANNIVERSARY
mega-event brings all sorts of people formerly associated with the CSWA
out of the woodwork. Although still weeks away, we're told that
celebrities such as long-time CSWA fan and Olympic Gold Medalist Kristi
Yamaguchi will be attending, along with possible "First
Nephew" George P. Bush, son of the Florida Governor. Rumor
also swirls that CSWA co-owner Steve Thomas has invited 80s sitcom child
stars Jason Bateman and Ricky Schroeder to attend in his private skybox.
Merritt
Auditorium has come a long way from where it started. Little,
if any, of the original warehouse which bore the name still exists in
the new structure, which now holds just over 32,000 attendants.
The CSWA home office is separated from the arena area by the CSWA Hall
of Fame. While no new entrants to the Hall of Fame have been
announced, you never know what surprises ANNIVERSARY might hold.
For more
info on the twelve-plus-year tradition, be sure to take a look at the
TRIBUNE's HISTORY section.
Along with
features like "The Backpage" event archives, the TRIBUNE
features the First Card ever in the CSWA, along with a special
behind-the-scenes look called "The Real Story." We'll
continue to add to the History section as time permits...but you can
only imagine how much there is to go through.
Let us
know if you have any specific questions about the CSWA's history, or
anything specific you'd like to see...we're always happy to oblige.

Contract Signing
Imminent?
TRIBUNE
reporters have found out that plans are being made to hold a contract
signing at INDY2K. CSWA Commissioner Chad Merritt refuses
to comment.
Sources
report that CSWA co-owner Stephen Thomas may be planning some sort of
'counteroffensive' to any move made by Merritt, especially in lieu of
the ongoing legal battle between the two.
With the
court battle between CSWA co-owners Chad Merritt and Stephen Thomas
apparently at a stand-still and the operations ban lifted (See: Court
Battle Continues headline below), the event formerly known as
Winter's Warriors has become INDEPENDENCE DAY 2000!
A partial
lineup for INDY has been announced, including a brand new Main
Event. With the exit of Randy Harders from active CSWA
competition due to personal problems, the slot against World Champion Deacon
has opened up. CSWA Commissioner Chad Merritt announced today that
he would fill that slot... twice. Two former US Champions, Blade
and Steve Radder, will compete against Deacon in a Three-Way
Championship match.
Speculation
has already begun concerning the competitors. Many wonder how
Blade, who was scheduled to get a US Title shot only if he defeated
Lawrence Stanley in Yakima, has now been escalated to the top spot...and
many are pointing at CSWA Chief of Staff JW Locke as the
answer. Rumors also swirl around Steve Radder and any relationship
he may have with Deacon's young apparent protege, Immanuel Pacheco.
Court Battle Continues
You may
have noticed that the TRIBUNE has been lacking updates
recently. We can tell you, it wasn't our idea. In May, CS
Enterprises co-founder and co-owner Stephen Thomas filed a
cease-and-desist injunction against partner Chad Merritt and CS
Enterprises, Inc. Apparently the real-life feud between the two
partners left the world of rings and arenas for the world of lawyers and
courtrooms.
The case
was fast-tracked, the injunction was granted, and all CSWA business was
stopped in its tracks. While contractual obligations to performers
and other staff have been met, TV shows were sent into reruns, house
shows were cancelled, and the court battle ensued.
Following
preliminary evidence in the case, Judge Hugo Black has ruled that the
CSWA may continue operations under the purview of Chad Merritt, at least
until further evidence is presented and a judgment is rendered.
Thomas's
main points of contention appear to surround the CSWA's near-bankruptcy
in 1997-98 as a result of Merritt's incarceration and trial for the
murder of Lyle Tallman aka The Red Midget. Thomas maintains that
Merritt overexercised his power in the company, eventually costing CS
Enterprises millions. Thomas has also charged Merritt with
misconduct, including abusive behavior. Merritt's response charges
Thomas with incompetence, arguing that Thomas's grasp of the lines
between reality and fantasy have become blurred. Merritt argues
that much of their feud has been 'on-air', that is, created for the
camera as part of the CSWA product.
The trial
resumes at the end of the month.
On another
legal note: we reported to you in May that CSWA
Commissioner Chad Merritt was attempting to sign former four-time CSWA
World Champion Hornet to an ongoing deal. Hornet's previous
contract with the CSWA was dissolved last year when he used an option
clause to end his six-year, $150 million contract a year early.
With the
recent legal battle between Merritt and Thomas, Merritt was legally
bound from continuing contract negotiations with Hornet. TRIBUNE
insiders have learned that one of the first bullet points on Merritt's
agenda is to seal the deal with Hornet. Previously, Merritt
offered a deal similar to Hornet's previous contract, but for a shorter
period of time. Hornet turned down the offer; in fact, to this
point he has refused to discuss a contract at all. Hornet is
currently involved with the CSWA on a per-appearance basis.
If the two
sides are unable to reach an agreement, Hornet could be banned from all
CSWA events.
We'll keep
you updated.

REINSTATED!
WW8
O-Fish-Al Lineup Announced?
BREAKING
NEWS
The CS
TRIBUNE has just learned that Kendall Codine, aka Blade, has been
reinstated by CSWA Chief of Staff JW Locke. The decision to
'rehire' Blade was made during the CSWA
PRIMETIME in Norfolk card by Commissioner Merritt and CoS
Locke. Blade's match against United States Champion Lawrence
Stanley has been reinstated for PRIMETIME in Yakima, although in
a non-title match. If Blade wins, he will be granted a title shot
at WW8.
In
addition to signing Mike Randalls to a two-year contract last
week, the TRIBUNE has learned that CSWA
Commissioner Chad Merritt is attempting to sign former four-time CSWA
World Champion Hornet to an ongoing deal. Hornet's previous
contract with the CSWA was dissolved last year when he used an option
clause to end his six-year, $150 million contract a year early.
Rumors have it that Merritt has offered a similar deal for a shorter
period of time, but Hornet has refused to accept. Hornet is
currently involved with the CSWA on a per-appearance basis. He has
been very clear that he is not interested in signing a contract.
If the two
sides are unable to reach an agreement, Hornet could be banned from all
CSWA events.
Commissioner
Merritt released revisions to both CSWA PRIMETIME in Yakima as
well as WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII.
The Unified Tag Team Title match previously scheduled for Yakima has
been moved to WW8. While Simply Stunning won the
controversial Norfolk Battle Royal, Merritt has ruled that Unified Tag
Team Champions The Dark Carnival will also defend against former
champions SWAT Team in a three-way dance with Extreme
rules. Both contenders have additional matches scheduled for
Yakima against the No Limit Soldiers and Strictly Business.
Also
signed for Yakima: Presidential Champion Alex Wylde puts
his title on the line against former Greensboro Champ Aaron Douglas.
Greensboro Champion Wicked Sight gets his wish, as Merritt has
ordered Hornet to accept his challenge.
Also
Signed for WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII: Mike Randalls accepts
the challenge of Alex Wylde in his return match.
Winter's Warriors in May?
Yeah,
yeah, we know it's not winter anymore...but if you're new to the CSWA,
then you may not realize that we were out of commission for the most
part for the first three months of the year. WW8 is the
next pay-per-view, followed in June/July by CSWA ANNIVERSARY 2000.
The action is heating up as the CSWA nears its premiere event.
If you're
interested in joining...then you better know someone on the insid, or
else e-mail us with a great reason why you should be in. Few slots
are available based on our discretion.

MIKE
RANDALLS SIGNS! Blade
Fired?, Changes in Upcoming Lineups?
|
BREAKING
NEWS
The CS
TRIBUNE has just learned that former Unified World Heavyweight Champion "Devastating"
Mike Randalls has signed a contract with the CSWA. While terms
were not disclosed, negotiations reportedly hovered around over 20
million dollars for two years, making Randalls the highest paid wrestler
in the sport.
Randalls'
first official contractual date is scheduled for WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII.
Mike
Randalls reappeared in wrestling circles at THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
SPECTACULAR. Negotiations for his return to the CSWA began
shortly thereafter.
The
TRIBUNE will have more on Mike Randalls shortly.
CSWA
Commissioner Chad Merritt apparently fired former US Champion BLADE
on Tuesday, following a continuing argument over a potential World title
shot against Deacon. No further word available on whether the two
sides have come to terms.
With the
ongoing brouhaha, many title matches for PRIMETIME in Yakima and WW8
have been left up in the air. We'll have up-to-date information as
soon as it's available.
The road
to WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII,
as the revitalized CSWA approaches its first PPV of the decade coming
up at the end of the month in Washington, D.C.'s downtown MCI
Center. Commissioner Chad Merritt returned to power at the
CSWA's Thanksgiving Weekend Spectacular card in December, only to
put the CSWA on hiatus until the company could be reworked, as well as
hiring former MWC head JW Locke as Chief of Staff.
Merritt
updated the lineup for PRIMETIME IN Richmond late in the week,
announcing a battle royal to determine the top contender for the Unified
Tag Titles. The winner will face the Powers of Apocalypse at PRIMETIME
in Yakima.
Also
announced for the Yakima card, Steve Radder gets his shot at
Deacon and the CSWA World Championship. Wicked Sight's competition
for the Greensboro Title will be in the spotlight at Yakima in a battle
royal. The winner receives a shot at the title at WW8.
Announced
in the Main Event for WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII, "The Hard One"
Randy Harders gets his shot at Deacon. Some have questioned the
move due to Harders recent loss of the Presidential Championship to a
returning Alex Wylde in Philadelphia. However, with Deacon's
controversial defeat of Kevin Powers at SHOWTIME, and his pending match
with Radder in Yakima, Harders remains the #2 contender until the new
rankings are released.
Merritt
also announced his intent to showcase new talent, as well as some
returning CSWA veterans. Other than Alex Wylde and some
developmental deals, we have no specific word on any new
contracts.
The short
road to the first WW card in three years continues with PRIMETIME in
Yakima.
BOB14: Take Two
No, it's
not the next PPV...it's just another great work by the Godfathers.
:) We hope you won't hate us too much for teasing the close
of the CSWA...but I thought it would be a good attention-grabber.
For those
of you who were around for BOB14...you know the old saying: Fool
me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
So
contrary to the countdown...the CSWA isn't going anywhere...except back
in action. Now go check out SHOWTIME, available from the Main
Event.
TWELVE Glorious Years
The CSWA
has o-fish-ally passed the twelfth year mark, although it will be
celebrated at CSWA ANNIVERSARY 2000. If you haven't checked

Countdown
to
Downtown
The
clock continues to tick
towards the CSWA's next PPV event, WINTER'S WARRIORS VIII, coming
up in March at Washington, D.C.'s downtown MCI Center. Tickets
went on sale Monday, with over 17,000 issued in opening day sales, even
with no matches announced for the card. The MCI Center will seat
approximately 32,000 for the event.
The short
road to the first WW card in three years begins later this week at SHOWTIME
in Philadelphia, headlined with Deacon defending the CSWA World
Title against former US Champ and current Unified Tag Team Champ Kevin
Powers.
Also on
the SHOWTIME card, US Champion Blade defends against Lawrence
Stanley; Greensboro Champion Wicked Sight defends against former Unified
World Champion JT Tyler; Cardigo Mysterian takes on CSWA Security, and
Presidential Champ Randy Harders defends against Aaron Douglas.
Rudy Seitzer will have a special interview with Mark Vizzack; and we've
been told that CSWA Commissioner Chad Merritt will have some
announcements, including announcing a new "chief of staff."
New Blood, Old Blood
With the
return of "Devastating"
Mike Randalls at TWS, and recent research by the TRIBUNE, it
has become obvious that CSWA Commissioner Chad Merritt has opened up the
proverbial pursestrings of the CSWA in order to sign 'new'
talent.
Like
Randalls, some of this new influx of talent appears to be former CSWA
stars. However, we've received word that the CSWA has made at
least three contract offers to wrestlers who have never competed in the
federation before.
One CSWA
official was commented as saying that one of the contracts in the works
was for "the brightest young talent we've seen in a long
time." No word yet on who that official was referring to.
Making Sense Of It All
We
realize that there's some confusion after TWS... and we here at
the TRIBUNE are here to help. Here's the rundown:
The
Family is made up of Presidential Champ Randy Harders, Steve Radder,
Joey Melton, Poison Ivy, and an injured Eli Flair.
The
Unholy consists of Apocalypse, Kevin Powers, Rob Sampson and Dante
Inferno.
The
Forsaken includes US Champ Blade, Greensboro Champ Wicked Sight,
Zero, and HaVoC.
Whew...got
all that? As if that weren't enough, it looks like Mike Randalls
is back with his crony Craig Miles. JT Tyler, who was masquerading
as the Peacekeeper, has been 'outed' along with his friends the SWAT
Team. Mark Vizzack is back in the corner with Sunshine and
apparently Mark Windham. Troy Windham appears to have gone AWOL,
leaving the No Limit Soldiers short a leader. Ellis Jackson has
been called back to the boardroom, breaking up the "Multinational
Corporation." Hornet is back....and who knows what's going on with
him. And Commissioner Chad Merritt has returned....and has
announced he'll be appointing a new chief of staff.
Aren't you
glad we're here to keep track for you? As you can see...things are

Heroes
Abound
|
The CSWA
closed out the millennium with THANKSGIVING
WEEKEND SPECTACULAR '99. And if the question still remained
before TWS as to who the CSWA's "heroes" were, it was
certainly answered by the end.
Deacon,
despite facing personal problems, and Eli Flair, despite a bum
knee which probably should have prevented him from competing medically,
put on a classic match with a clean finish, something which has been
missing as of late in the CSWA's World Championship matches.
Commissioner
Chad Merritt returned, ousting Stephen Thomas from the commissionership
and returning the Presidential Title to the waist of a wrestler.
Mark
Vizzack returned, at least for the night, revealing himself as the
man behind the mask of X. And that wasn't the only surprise, as
former Unholy leader Apocalypse somehow found a way to screw not
only the Family, but the Unholy as well, essentially disbanding the
group.
If you
haven't caught the show yet, be sure to check out the replay, available
to TRIBUNE readers in the Main Event.
The Wolf Returns!
"Devastating"
Mike Randalls made a huge surprise return during the Deacon/Love
match on TWS DAY TWO. The former Unified World Heavyweight
Champion stunned the world, especially Hornet, by breezing down the
walkway and taking a seat in the front row.
The
TRIBUNE has found out that Randalls has indeed been re-signed by the
CSWA. CSWA officials expect to showcase Randalls on either the
upcoming SHOWTIME or PRIMETIME cards. However, we have also found
out that Randalls' new contract is for a limited number of dates.
The
biggest question is: Why is Mike Randalls back? We're hoping
to be the first to bring you that answer.

Presidential Showdown at SHOWTIME
While
the overall picture for the Presidential Title didn't get any clearer,
at least the list of names has been slimmed down. Following PRIMETIME
POOLJAM in Grand Cayman, the
field for the 'wrestler's' tournament has been knocked down to eight
second round participants who will face off at SHOWTIME in Houston.
Along with those four matches, Commissioner Thomas's Presidential
Touranment will add one, with CSWA VP of Security
Gregg Gethard taking on CSWA
Vice-Commissioner AJ Honold in their second round match. Commissioner
Thomas has already advanced to the finals, by virtue of his wins
over both Sunshine Del Payne and Vice-Commish Mark Vizzachero in
Kingstown.
We
Need A Hero?
With the
loss of the "Greatest American Hero" in lieu of "Takin Care of
Business" Hornet, or the still-recovering former CSWA World Champion Mark
Vizzack, many fans don't know who to cheer for. Many pundits have
commented on the loss of the 'babyface' in the CSWA.
With the
'hardcore' attitude of champion Eli Flair, or the heel aspect of the
disintegrating Powers of Love, as well as the obviously-rulebreaker attitude of
the Unholy, only Deacon can be pointed to as the one true 'babyface' left
in the CSWA.
Even CSWA
officials have discussed the situation in conference rooms. We here at the
TRIBUNE hear rumor that upcoming events may see the return of a "hero"
to the CSWA.

Presidential
Fiasco
You
know things have taken a strange turn when Commissioner Thomas is in
the running for the CSWA
Presidential Championship...and when Poison Ivy is calling for the
return of the apparently-lost former Commish Merritt.
At
SuperPRIMETIME in Trinidad, Commish Thomas made the
announcement of the competitors in the tournament for the Presidential
Title. Did it include Deacon, Apocalypse, even Carl Brigsby?
Nope...nada...none of the above. It included such mat greats as
CSWA VP of Security Gregg Gethard, CSWA BOD member Sunshine Del Payne,
and Thomas himself.
While
we here at the TRIBUNE stray away from commentary ourselves, leaving
that to the columnists...what really can be said? Rumors have
abounded for years that Thomas isn't playing with a full deck.
But it could simply be that Thomas wants his own time in the
limelight...his own opportunity to shine since the last time he
stepped in the ring with the likes of Merritt, Bob Ryder and others.
Vice-Commissioner
Mark Vizzachero has voiced his opposition to the tournament both publicly
and privately. He is slated to face former CSWA VP "Lambfry"
Jon Katz in the first round of the tournament; while Thomas seeded
himself against Sunshine Del Payne.
Whatever
the motive...no matter how innocent the agenda, Thomas is playing a
dangerous game that risks seriously cheapening one of the CSWA's
historically prestigious titles.
Thanksgiving

summer's PRIMETIME POOLJAM wears down in the Caribbean, with
its final events on the schedule, CSWA officials announced earlier

events of many wrestling fans: the THANKSGIVING WEEKEND SPECTACULAR!
TWS marks not only the return of the CSWA's signature holiday event,
but the first multi-day in over two years.
While
the official card lineup has not been announced, the TRIBUNE has

Hornet
Retires!
During
SHOWTIME at Negril,
former four-time CSWA World Champion Hornet
walked out of his Unified Tag Team Championship Match, leaving Aaron
Douglas to deal with the Powers
of Love alone.
Footage
released shortly after SHOWTIME
showed Hornet leaving the building. However, a CSWA camera
crew got him to talk, in which the following was included
"Don't get me wrong...I don't
begrudge anyone anything. But all of you, as well as the CSWA, I've
carried on my previously-aching back for over eleven years. From the
first day I walked in to the God-forsaken Merritt Auditorium until
tonight. Lord...even when I was gone for a year I still carried the
place. And I'm tired of it. I'm tired of what it's made me become and
because of what I've done.
It's not worth it. None of it has
been worth losing my best friend, or backstabbing a dear friend, or
even the nine-figure deal.
I'm tired.....I quit."
The
CSWA has not released an official response. When we here at the
TRIBUNE contacted Hornet's agent, we were told that Hornet's option
had been exercised, and he was no longer under contract.
Jamaican
Aftermath
Negril,
Jamaica got quite an eyeful as the Parsons Cruise Liner brought the
CSWA's PRIMETIME POOLJAM Tour to town. In the aftermath, the
TRIBUNE has learned that CSWA officials have agreed to the Powers and
partner vs. Love and partner arrangement the tag team champs
discussed. Rather than being stripped of the titles, Powers and
Love will choose partners, with the winner of the match coming out as
the new Unified Tag Team Champions.
After
his match with Deacon, Jesse Solomon was briefly
hospitalized. Originally diagnosed with a mild concussion,
doctors have ordered Solomon back to the States for further diagnosis,
including an MRI. Solomon has regained feeling in his right leg,
however, doctors are concerned that other complications may develop.
Eli
Flair is scheduled to defend against Eddy Love in Trinidad.
After the rush of interference in Negril, however, including the
Unholy's attack on Love, and Love's attempt to disrupt the Flair/Radder
match, can anyone expect to maintain order in that one?

The
Gentleman's Blade
If
you had to choose a "Feud
of the Week" in the CSWA, the hands-down winner would be
"The English Gentleman" Lawrence
Stanley
and
newly-crowned Greensboro Champion and Unholy member,
Blade.
These two have engaged in a top-flight war of words as they gear up
for their championship bout at SHOWTIME
in Negril.
Stanley
is coming off a controversial win over Alex Wylde at PRIMETIME
POOLJAM in Nassau, as Blade comes off his own controversial win of
the Greensboro Championship over former two-time champion Aaron
Douglas. Stanley became the top contender to the Greensboro
Title by virtue of his battle royal win and the win over Wylde.
While
there are some who argue that the Greensboro Title is not a worthy
goal to shoot for, there are those who look at the careers of men like
Mark Windham, a former Greensboro Champ who went on to have five US
Title reigns and a reign as the Unified World Champion.
Fate
may have something in store for the winner of this match. To the
winner goes the spoils....to the loser....
Two-Time,
Two-Time...
While
many relate the above headline most recently to Hornet for his
recent out-of-the-ring conquests, it's a former Hornet protege that
the name rightly belongs too. In Nassau, Nemesis became
the two-time United States Champion, a feat that few can claim.
The man who wields
'Sunshine', a 'pregnant' chair, is better suited to a padded room than the
wrestling ring. But with his crazed aspect has come success for the young
man. The CSWA has a history of 'interesting' major characters, including
men like "Timmy Windham" and Junior Hornet, aka P Vicious, two men who
went from Green Valley to become multiple-time Unified Tag Team Champions.
Who knows what
Nemesis has planned for his second title reign or for Sunshine.....but you've
got to know it'll be interesting.

Seizter here for your loving CS TRIBUNE. You know, as the 'sniffer' in the business,
I get all kinds of people coming to me with all kinds of gossip. As you all know, I
helped break the story about Nemesis and K-9 being brothers. Well...I got a little
more information lately:
(The camera shows Rudy Seitzer sitting in a room with the looks of an office about it,
Rudy is digging through some papers but it looks as if he's waiting for somebody. His eyes
keep going up to the door. Seitzer has bags under his eyes, it appears he had a good
nights sleep in some time, he just keeps frantically looking over papers. He doesn't even
hear the door open or the man approach.) (continued)

A
Flair For The Gold
|
The CSWA World Championship went
up for grabs in the ANNIVERSARY IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS... and it came down
in the hands of "Total Elimination" Eli Flair. Flair went
3-1 in the IRONMAN, losing only to former champion Mark Vizzack. |
The
World Title went under the spotlight when the CSWA Board of Directors stripped Hornet of
the title at Battle of the Belts XVI. The IOC featured some tremendous matchups,
including its final two: Kevin Powers defeating Eddy Love and Eli Flair defeating
Hornet.
Flair
begins his first title reign, having previously held the Intracontinental, Presidential,
and United States Championships. The IRONMAN also marked the reunion of "Team
Extreme," as Ivy turned her back on her cheating man, Hornet, and returned to the
side of her brother-in-law.
We here
at the CS TRIBUNE want to congratulate Eli Flair on his title reign.
As The Windhams
Turn
Revelation
was certainly an apt name for ANNIVERSARY. The only thing we didn't find out was the
whereabout of former CSWA Co-Commish Chad Merritt! Along with the surprises from
people like Poison Ivy, Jesse Solomon and others, the prize for "Revelation of the
Night" certainly went to the Windham Family.
Mark's "Awakening"
was brought to bear in one ANNIVERSARY's Main Events. As we all saw, while "The
Living Legend" may be back...there's good reason behind calling the man "The
Living Psycho" as well.
Let's see if we can recite
the litany: parents killed, brother missing and presumed dead, lived with abusive
uncle and bratty cousin, brother not dead but thinks he's a Muppet, brother begins
attacking best friend, brother reconciles, parents lived but mother dead, father has
cancer wants to reunite family, feud with father and brother, divorce wife and leave
daughter, father dies, finds out father isn't really father, feuds with brother, brother
returns with former nemesis, reveals that brother isn't brother, but cousin is brother.
Whew....not to mention
Troy's return and his announcement that Hornet and Jewels Windham, Mark's ex-wife, have
been having an affair!
We here at the TRIBUNE will
keep you updated as more Windham news unfolds.

Missing In
Action?
|
Sources close to the TRIBUNE
are reporting that CSWA superstar Sunshine Del Payne has not been seen since CSWA
PRIMETIME in Tampa. A police report was filed the day following the card,
when Ms. Del Payne was reported as missing by former CSWA World Champion Mark Vizzack. |
Witnesses
reported seeing Sunshine after the card; one witness reported seeing Sunshine with Damien
Xeno, the new manager of Deacon, although this report has not been substantiated. We
could not reach Mr. Xeno or Deacon for comment, although the police advise that the have
been in contact with Deacon's new manager. How this will affect the ANNIVERSARY
IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS remains to be seen.
Unholy Alliance?
As if the CSWA didn't have a
sordid enough alliance in the "Unholy" led by Dante Inferno and Apocalypse,
Tampa seemed to concrete a new alliance between four strange bedfellows.
In what some are calling the
"New America's Team", a reference to the old teaming of Hornet and Mark Windham,
it looks like this new alliance puts Hornet and Poison Ivy in cahoots with Billy Starr and
Aaron Douglas.
Douglas, who won the
Greensboro Title with an assist from Hornet, announced Hornet as his 'mystery opponent'
for Apocalypse, while Douglas was seen on Hornet's lear jet. Billy Starr came to
Hornet's aid in an obviously preset attack on Apocalypse during the Main Event.
If the history between
Hornet and Ivy weren't strange enough, the details between Ivy and Starr are even
stranger. Ivy has no love lost for the man formerly managed by Teri Melton.
This strange collusion seems
to have been going on since BATTLE OF THE BELTS XVI...and who knows where it may lead.
Shepherd's Crook?
Chris Shepherd was arraigned
in a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Long Island, New York. The man known as Deacon's
previous manager Shepherd in the CSWA, was arrested just hours before SHOWTIME in Long
Island for the apparent murder of a young woman found in the backstage area.
Odd circumstances continue
to surround this case. The body of the young woman, still unidentified, has been
missing from the county morgue. Some analysts advise that this could kill the
prosecution's case against Shepherd.

Ch...Thomas In
Charge?
|
With the apparent ousting of former CSWA
Co-Commissioner Merritt at Battle of the Belts XIV, Stephen Thomas
o-fish-ally takes over the reins of the company as the sole president and commish.
No word has been given on whether Merritt still has ownership in the CSWA's parent
company, CS Enterprises. Rumor is that Merritt has taken off
out of the country, although we here at the TRIBUNE have been unable to confirm such a
rumor. |
Thomas
in charge? |
|
Thomas
has apparently launched a campaign to get Troy Windham to return to the CSWA. Troy
left wrestling all together in mid-1998, just before the 'death' of Timmy Windham.
It is
also rumored that Thomas is trying to renegotiate Mark Windham's contract, including
appearance bonds for certain major appearances.
Another Murder?
Just when it looked like the
CSWA might rack up some 'safe working hours without a murder' for OSHA, a horrible tragedy
apparently occured prior to CSWA SHOWTIME in Long Island last weekend.
Chris Shepherd, known as
Deacon's manager Shepherd in the CSWA, was arrested just hours before SHOWTIME.
Eyewitnesses, as well as a CSWA camera crew, saw Shepherd chasing a young woman into the
backstage area. The young woman was found injured, apparently dead, as Shepherd
stood over her, bloody knife in hand.
At this point, we have no
details on exactly what Shepherd has been charged with, or if bail has been set. He
has been suspended from the CSWA pending further review. No information has come
forward regarding the victim's identity, relationship with Shepherd, or cause of death.
At BOB16, it first
looked like we'd see a Hornet/Godreign
IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS IV
At BOB16, it first looked like we'd see a Hornet/Godreign confrontation as
the Main Event at ANNIVERSARY. But along with stripping Hornet of the title,
Merritt announced the IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS to fill the vacated title. The field as
announced by Commissioner Thomas includes: former four-time CSWA World Champion Hornet,
former World Champions Mark Vizzack and Eddy Love, former US Champion Kevin
Powers, and perennial top contender Deacon.
Thomas also announced an open sixth spot
to be determined by a battle royal at SHOWTIME in Long Island.
The IOC has a long tradition in the CSWA,
who has played part-host to the three former events. The round-robin style tournament
features huge matchups between the top contenders in the world. With six competitors
however, one slight change has been announced. Each participant will wrestle four
matches, rather than a true round-robin format against all five participants. The order of
the matches is determined by random drawing. The entire IRONMAN will take place at CSWA
ANNIVERSARY 1999: Revelation.
TRIBUNE Launches
Backpage!
After months upon months of promises, we here at
the TRIBUNE have finally launched "The Backpage," a CSWA event archive.
Including events from 1994 through 1998, The Backpage gives a small part of the CSWA's
voluminous history, including famous cards such as Winter's Warriors VII,
FISH FUND XI, and much more.
This month's featured archive is FISH FUND X: Mine Eyes Have Seen
The Glory from July 4, 1995. FFX features the second IRONMAN of CHAMPIONS,
as well as Mark Windham's famous match against "Mickey's Choice."

Windhams AWOL?
Rumor
around the CSWA offices is running rampant that CSWA Commissioner Stephen Thomas has the
Windham family on the top of his agenda. Mark Windham, his brother Timmy, and cousin
Troy have all been champions in the CSWA, but have also been scarce lately.
Thomas
has apparently launched a campaign to get Troy Windham to return to the CSWA. Troy
left wrestling all together in mid-1998, just before the 'death' of Timmy Windham.
It is
also rumored that Thomas is trying to renegotiate Mark Windham's contract, including
appearance bonds for certain major appearances.

In With The...Old?
BOB16 also saw the
return of some familiar faces to the CSWA. Eli Flair made his return from major
knee surgery, revealing himself as the special referee in the mixed tag Main Event.
Flair's payback was cut short, however, when former Presidential Champion Billy Starr
made a surprise appearance as well. Starr came to the aid of Hornet against Eli Flair.
In another surprise return, former USN
Champion Julius Godreign returned to the ring at the side of CSWA Co-Commissioner
Stephen Thomas. Godreign not only carried his old USN Title, but apparently played a role
in helping Thomas oust CSWA Co-Commissioner Chad Merritt from his position at the top of
the organization. Godreign was last seen in the CSWA a year ago, when he returned to the
ring as a part of Troy Windham's "Frat" after serving a small stint as a front
office employee.
Merritt Ousted?
Various CSWA officials have reported to the TRIBUNE that Chad Merritt has not
been seen in the CSWA main offices in Greensboro, NC since BOB16. Merritt's
whereabouts are unknown following his confrontations with Hornet and then with Thomas and
Godreign.
Details regarding what seeme to be a
corporate takeover by Thomas are sketchy; we cannot confirm what the piece of paper was
that Thomas showed Merritt at BOB16. Whatever it was...it seems to have sent Merritt
packing.

Making a
New "Brand" Name
Throughout
his eleven year career, Hornet has competed in various leagues around the world, from the
NWC to the AAWC. But his star has risen and fallen with the company he started with,
the CSWA. At SHOWTIME in San Antonio, Hornet captured his fourth
CSWA World Title. But in a way that we've never seen before...by a man we've never
seen before.
Hornet's
past title wins were accompanied with huge cheers; this time, nothing but boos. Many
of the fans threw things; while a few even jumped the rail.
Hornet's
use of a branding iron reminded any long-time CSWA fan of another time...a time when
Hornet was on the receiving end of a similar branding iron. Jim Williams caused an
injury that forced Hornet to relinquish his Unified World Title. No one who knows
anything about wrestling, or about Hornet himself, believed he could do what he did at
SHOWTIME....brand a man.
The
mark is permanent, irreversable. Just like the feud between Hornet and Vizzack seems
destined to come. The two meet again in a mixed tag match at BATTLE OF THE BELTS XVI
in just over two weeks, along with Sunshine and Poison Ivy. You thought Hornet/GUNS
was titanic? We haven't seen anything yet.
Lawsuits Abound
Benson Files Motion Against CSWA
Former CSWA commentator and CS TRIBUNE
columnist Sammy Benson filed a motion against the CSWA earlier this week for undisclosed
damages. The motion charges the CSWA wrongful dismissal regarding Benson's firing
during the ELVIS LIVES XI event in January.
Many pundits have
commented that Benson doesn't have a legal leg to stand on, since his contract expired at
the event, and he was not able to negotiate a new one with CSWA officials.
Benson's suit comes
on the heels of the ongoing saga between Aaron Douglas and the CSWA, specifically CSWA
Co-Commissioner Chad Merritt. The arbiter in that case, Judge Antonio Connor
attended CSWA PRIMETIME in Santa Fe. No further announcements have been made
regarding Douglas's lawsuit, which charges the CSWA of harassment and seeks over ten
million dollars in damages. The lawsuit is scheduled for another hearing in early
May.
Unified Tag Tournament
Round One Completed; Finale at BOB16
The first round of
the tournament to fill the vacated Unified Tag Team Championships took place at SHOWTIME
in San Antonio. A couple of surprise wupsets started the tournament, which
is set to conclude at BATTLE OF THE BELTS XVI, where the second round,
semifinal and final rounds will take place. Below is a list of the second round
pairings.
#1 Disco Express vs. #9 Lunar Express
#3 Arrogance vs. #5 Razor Meltdown
#2 Powers of Love vs. #10 Crippler/Bobby Jackson
#4 Black Army vs. #6 Privateers
Inferno Returns?
Dante
Inferno, along with his manager, Silky Rose, made their re-appearance at SHOWTIME
in San Antonio. Inferno's last go-round with the CSWA cost a bundle in an
out-of-court settlement with a young man Inferno tossed out of the balcony while he was
attending a CSWA live event. Apparently CSWA officials are looking to recoup some of
those funds...or else Inferno is back without a contract. Either way, he's a
dangerous man, especially for Mark Vizzack and Sunshine Del Payne.

Broken Glass
CSWA
PRIMETIME in Santa Fe gave us something we've never seen. Something no one
ever thought we'd see. CSWA World Champion Mark Vizzack threw the World Title at
Hornet following Hornet's interference in his match with "Hurricane" Eddy Love.
Vizzack is fed up with Hornet's interference...and that's why the two men have
their own war to settle the score coming up in San Antonio. Word has it the
Commissioner Merritt wanted to save the big Vizzack/Hornet match for BATTLE OF THE BELTS
or even ANNIVERSARY... but things have gotten out of hand.
Speaking
of out of hand...Randy Harders and Aaron Douglas have just about killed each other over
the past two months. Harders finally gets his win, and the Greensboro Championship,
but at what cost? And what will the loss of the title do to Douglas? He's
already suing the CSWA for ten million dollars...is this the straw that breaks the camel's
back?
Unified Tag Team Tournament
CSWA
officials finally announced the seeds and first-round pairings for the upcoming tournament
to determine the new Unified Tag Team Champions.
The
titles were vacated by commissioners' decree at a press conference following ELVIS
LIVES, where Merritt announced that he was stripping Disco Express of
the Unified Tag Team Titles. When questioned over the decision he cited the ELXI
match with former champs ARROGANCE as "one of the most embarrassing
displays I've ever seen." Merritt added, "I've now seen the rulebook
broken in every way known to man.
Former
champions Disco Express, do, however, get the top seed in the tournament. They are
followed by the Powers of Love, former multi-time champions ARROGANCE, and the Black Army.
(Note:
Complete brackets are available in RP Central's "SHOWTIME in San Antonio
topic)
Douglas' Lawsuit Continues
Judge
Antonio Connor attended CSWA PRIMETIME in Santa Fe, apparently getting a bird's eye view
of the ongoing confrontation between Aaron Douglas and CSWA Co-Commissioner Chad Merritt.
In mid-February, Judge Connor refused to dismiss the lawsuit against the CSWA by
Aaron Douglas during a preliminary hearing, stating, "While the damages sought by the
client may be extreme, the court finds no reason to dismiss the lawsuit. The
plantiff has demonstrated enough evidence to meet this court's criteria for
continuance," Judge Connor expounded.
Douglas
upped his damages sought in the case from over three million dollars to just over ten
million dollars. Douglas maintains that the CSWA, including CSWA co-owner Chad
Merritt, has systematically tried to damage his career. Further hearings have been
scheduled for later in the month.

With Malice Towards All?
CSWA
PRIMETIME in Lincoln saw its share of injuries. Unholy member Nemesis
was attacked by Powers and Love in the back before his Barbed Wire Ladder Match for the US
Title, in retaliation for the Unholy's attack in Kansas City. The mild concussion
did not hinder Nemesis from winning the US Title, however.
Randy
Harders seemed ready to overcome a concussion and injuries sustained in a car accident
last week to win the Greensboro Title, before CSWA co-owner Chad Merritt tossed a baseball
bat amiss. Harders was judged the winner of the match by DQ, thanks to Merritt's
overruling of the referee.
Steve
Radder once again took a beating from members of the Unholy. There is not a current
report on his condition.
Former
US Champ Eli Flair will undergo arthroscopic surgery this week in order to determine the
extent of his injuries. Flair's knee has been bothering him for months, but the
damage it sustained in Kansas City as the hands of Powers and Hornet was multiplied by a
grueling barbed wire ladder match, along with a singapore cane shot and another Scorpion
Deathlock. Flair may be out for months.
Peyton
Wright also sustained a mild concussion in the Main Event against PLR, when he was hit in
the head with a chair.
Signed, Sealed, Delivered
CSWA
officials announced a change in the upcoming SHOWTIME card in Reno, Nevada, as well as the
main event for the CSWA PRIMETIME in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Newly-crowned
United States Champion Nemesis will defend against Hornet in Reno.
In
Santa Fe, Mark Vizzack will defend the World Title against Eddy Love, in the rematch from
ELVIS LIVES XI. Should Deacon win the title in Reno, he'll go on to face Love...in a
long-awaited match between these two men.
World Tag Tournament?
In
a post-SHOWTIME press conference last week, Merritt expounded on his
previous intent to hold a tournament for the Unified World Tag Team Titles.
"We're looking to use this event as a way to bring in some of the top names in the
business, as well as to allow some of our current stars to get more notice," Merritt
said. He announced that the tournament may begin at next week's CSWA PRIMETIME in
Santa Fe.
This
follows a previous press conference after ELVIS LIVES, where Merritt
announced that he was stripping Disco Express of the Unified Tag Team
Titles. When questioned over the decision he cited the ELXI match
with former champs ARROGANCE as "one of the most embarrassing
displays I've ever seen." Merritt added, "I've now seen the rulebook
broken in every way known to man."
Douglas' Lawsuit Continues
Judge
Antonio Connor refused to dismiss the lawsuit against the CSWA by Aaron Douglas during a
preliminary hearing held last week in the Guilford County courtroom.
"While
the damages sought by the client may be extreme, the court finds no reason to dismiss the
lawsuit. The plantiff has demonstrated enough evidence to meet this court's criteria
for continuance," Judge Connor expounded.
Douglas
upped his damages sought in the case from over three million dollars to just over ten
million dollars. Douglas maintains that the CSWA, including CSWA co-owner Chad
Merritt, has systematically tried to damage his career. Further hearings have been
scheduled for later in the month.

Showtime for Hornet?
Apparently
the new 'it's nothing personal' Hornet couldn't get enough of himself in Kansas City.
After delivering a long diatribe to Rudy Seitzer, he found his way into the final
two matches of the night.
We
currently have no update on Eli Flair, who went into his US Title match with Kevin Powers
already injured. A hard-fought match with Powers, plus a steel-plated baseball bat,
as well as a Scorpion Deathlock, may have put the already-injured knee out of commission.
SHOWTIME
also saw the bizarre beginning of a new group called "The Unholy." Led by
Lady Death, this group of Apocalypse, Blade, Pat Black and Nemesis seem to be something
that would've have made the mysteriously-departed Dante Inferno proud.
Elimination Squad Eliminated
In
an post-SHOWTIME press conference held Sunday night, CSWA co-owner Chad
Merritt announced that the CSWA had decided not to renew the contracts of the Eliminator,
Rap Man, Enforcer, and the rest of the Elimination Squad. "In order to make it
in this business," Merritt said, "you have to have some degree of charisma, and
more importantly, some degree of talent."
Eliminator
was treated and released by a local Kansas City hospital for his injuries sustained at
SHOWTIME.

New World Champion!
"Daredevil"
Mark Vizzack took the CSWA World Heavyweight Championship from "Hurricane" Eddy
Love in the steel cage Main Event at ELVIS LIVES XI on Sunday night.
A
more-than-capacity crowd of 36,012 with over 35,000 paid was announced for the
pay-per-view megaevent, eclipsing the crowd for the SuperPRIMETIME in
Memphis card held Saturday. Early reports project the buyrate for the show
as a 30% increase from FISH FUND XII and almost 40% from ANNIVERSARY
1998.
Vizzack's
victory was multiplied by the fact that his valet/manager Sunshine Del Payne, found her
way to arena, despite the devices of the man claiming to be her half-brother. The
victory party was short-lived, however, as former champion Hornet
brutally attacked Vizzack, along with the help of Poison Ivy.
Also
on the card, Eli Flair took the United States Championship in a brutal
Triangle match, defeating both Kevin Powers and the Eliminator. Aaron
Douglas became the first Greensboro Champion since 1997, despite being attacked
afterwards by Randy Harders.
Check
the Main Event for a full run-down from ELXI.
Windham Lives?!
Those
of you who were fortunate enough to see ELVIS LIVES XI Sunday night saw
the bizarre events that occurred. As if the Hornet turn on Mark Vizzack wasn't
shocking enough, it appeared as if Timmy Windham returned from the grave,
with the assistance of Mickey Benedict, Mark Windham's former
arch-nemesis!
We'll
have more on this bizarre story as information becomes available.
Benson Released
Sammy
Benson's contract was not extended, as he and CSWA co-owner Chad Merritt could come to no

LIVES XI card on Sunday. We'll bring more information to you about Benson's
future endeavors as they become available.

Lawsuit Sees Light of Day
Preliminary Hearing Scheduled for Next Week
Aaron Douglas's 4.8 million dollar lawsuit
pending against the CSWA will begin being heard by a judge in the Guilford County
Courthouse in Greensboro, NC.
"We expect the
court will quickly see the unfair, conspiratorial manner in which Mr. Douglas has been
treated by the CSWA's top brass, and compensate him accordingly," said Douglas's
attorney Jake Stribling of the law firm Whee, Cheatam, and Howe.
CSWA officials made
no comment on the civil suit. Behind the scenes, many have speculated on a possible
settlement between Douglas and the CSWA.
Fallout from Baltimore
A series of events followed the
CSWA's recent successful two-stop on the East Coast. Yet another fine was levied on
Eli Flair's manager and mentor, Poison Ivy, following her use of the singapore cane.
Mark Windham was taken into custody,
but released on his own recognizance, following an incident outside the arena in
Baltimore.
Sunshine Del Payne was taken into
custody and committed into the Green Valley Home For The Mentally Deranged.
Officials have been told that she was committed based on the breech of a previous court
decision regarding her welfare; although no details have been released on exact what
caused the violation. Ms. Del Payne is not being allowed any outside visitors at
this time.
Co-Commissioner Chad Merritt signed
Dante Inferno and his manager, Silky Rose, to a CSWA contract of undisclosed length and
amount. When questioned on the contract signing, Merritt had no comment.
Inferno is still facing charges from
an incident at CSWA SuperPRIMETIME in Charleston where he is alleged to have thrown a fan
over the balcony in Charleston. Darren Thompson, 29, was severely injured when he
apparently attempted to stop Inferno from making his way down to the floor area.

Benson
Extended...Again
CSWA
officials announced today that commentator Sammy Benson's contract has been extended
through ELVIS LIVES XI while contract negotiations continue.
Benson's
future with the CSWA was in doubt until "Remembering Timmy", when
Co-Commissioner Merritt elected to extend Benson's contract by two events. That
extension ended with SuperPRIMETIME in Charleston.
Benson
is apparently on paid leave. He is obligated only to attend the events up to and
including ELXI. His other duties have been transferred elsewhere.
Starr's Colors?
Corporation member Billy Starr made his
presence felt at this week's SuperPRIMETIME event, interfering in the Steve Radder/Joey
Melton match, which was already charged with emotion.
Appearing to come to
the aid of Radder, who has not officially joined to Corporation, but is a member of the
'sub-group' PLR, Starr attacked Joey Melton, who defeated Starr to regain leadership of
the Corporation at PRIMETIME in Seattle. Following the attack on Melton, and after
helping the fallen Radder to his feet, Starr immediately attacked Radder, delivering a
Powerbomb, and leaving the ring.

SPT in
Charleston Aftermath Could Pose Major Problems For CSWA
The mysterious appearance of Dante
Inferno and Silky Rose could pose major problems for CSWA
Co-Commisioner Chad Merritt, who is already embroiled in a major lawsuit with Aaron
Douglas. As of press time, we have no further information on the Douglas
matter, although preliminary hearings are scheduled for later this month.
Inferno is alleged to have thrown a
fan over the balcony in Charleston. Darren Thompson, 29, was severely injured when
he apparently attempted to stop Inferno from making his way down to the floor area at CSWA
SUPERPRIMETIME. Thompson's fall was broken by other fans in seating below.
Thompson remains in critical condition with a collapsed lung at Charleston's Hoover
Medical Centar.
Surprisingly enough, it is not
Thompson, but the family of one of the fans in the lower level, Marc Stearns, that is
suing the CSWA. Stearns suffered a dislocated shoulder when Thompson fell.

SHOWTIME turns out the corporate home of the CSWA on December 18.

Powers and Eli Flair actually tagging against the Elimination Squad, CSWA officials have
also announced that hometown favorite Hornet will be in attendance.
They have not announced what role Hornet will play in the event.
The CSWA has already sold out the

CSWA
fans around the world and in Charleston were given their money's worth as SuperPRIMETIME
in Charleston was presented on cable's U-62. Scoring a rating of 15.6, SPT was the

Football on network television. |
The
Main Event saw Mark Vizzack challenge for Eddy Love's CSWA World Championship, and
featured an ending which is sure to cause controversy in the weeks and months ahead.
In
what is being billed as a startling upset victory, "Iceman" Steve Radder

others.
