Hey ya'll
Hey doods.
I didn't have anything to do with this week or the past few weeks. I wrote some **** for GWE's next card (which I wake up every morning hoping gets posted for my stuff) and two CSWA matches. But right after I finished that stuff, my job turned really, really, really, really, really ****ing insane which kept me from being able to do too much with NFW this week, which sucks because I'm a co-president. But next card, I'm making it a priority and will turn out some stuff.
As far as bringing in our own characters into the fold here... for a long time, I wouldn't write a match using any of my own characters to keep things on the up and up. But I started writing matches with my own dudes the past few years because all of us get along and plan things out in advance. (The 'Nami/Randalls match from the last CSWA card. I wrote it but me and Katz hashed it out over e-mail. The Troy/Eli matches, me and Pete argued over IM on who was going to WIN the match since both of us wanted to put the other guy over.) Or when things don't get planned in advance and a big shock happens, we mark out for it and move on. (I wrote the Deacon/Randalls match that led into the ClaimStakers forming, which I had no clue about until I read the card.)
Like I said before, when we started this new style of league, we had an idea of the concept and direction of where we wanted it to go. Calvin leading one side, Doc leading the other, making it like a totally serious All-Japan/Ring of Honor athletic competition sort of thing. The thought of Mike Manson having his own division and conference which completely reinvented how a wrestling show gets presented-- not once did it cross any of our minds. We had a great roster, some people had to tap out and the inter-conference stuff we wanted didn't pan out. So, we had to adjust and then we all had bigger picture stories we wanted to do so we brought in old doods and put them in the forefront to make what we were doing hot again.
I think me, Katz and JN have proved over the years the one thing none of us do is bury other people for our gains-- especially not in leagues we run. All of us have been burned before because of that and we all want to have a give-and-take kind of style.
One thing I learned in FW and writing in general-- not everyone is going to be happy with everything all of the time. Some people love NFW East, others don't like it. Some people really like the racial edge we're doing, others probably are appalled by it. Some like the old-school angles we run, others probably want us to break out new things. I, myself, don't like narrative styles of RP or matchwriting. But others do and feel they can best write in that style and I can live with that.
I think we have a league like no other I've seen in FW. The format is completely different. There are so many styles of writing and types of angles being run and characters. Stepping back and looking at it, it's really impressive. No other league, I don't think, has generated almost 50 posts in a feedback discussion. Whether you love it or hate it, it shows people are emotionally invested in what we're doing.
However, I do think some guys have gotten lost in the fray. And that's unfortunate. I hope everyone (including and especially us) steps back and looks at what we're doing with our characters and where we want it all to go.
I also hope that all of you stick around for the next season-- especially Brunk and Jeff. Your guys stuff is some of my favorite stuff going on right now and working with you guys what little I have (GWE, The Torch) has been a bunch of fun.
That's enough from me. Next card, I'm going to step up. Katz-- you really deserve a break from organizing this mess we created.
