I'll go ahead and nip this before it spirals into the typical forum conjecture.I spent the last three weeks teaching abd traveling in Europe. That "hype" series is being lead by probably 5-7 parts from the current one posted. The last time I was able to write anything on it was on the flight over to there, and then a couple ferry rides a few days after that. I let Saunders' handler know, right when the new bracket went up, that I wouldn't be able to post anything until way late into the time period. At that point my laptop was dead and I only had my iPhone to communicate. He was also traveling, too. I got back to the states a couple days ago and had faculty meetings, reports to write, client work to wrap up, and unpacking/washing/packing for a 900 mile road trip I'm now on. I wrote those only after everything else was finished, and I wasn't going to post a third if I knew he was caught in travel and was done at two. The hype stuff had to be posted pretty quickly together to make up for lack of access from the previous two weeks and catch that parallel "past" story up to the current one. So, feel free to be snarky, but at least know that the people who needed to know, did.

Your M.O. is your own, whatever. From an outsider's perspective, it just seems like you placed a higher priority on the Hype thread 25-part character backstory than the actual match itself. Hell, post them as your "counted" RPs - why not? It's not like they're more or less abstract than what you're submitting to be judged. You're sitting on enough RP to potentially guide you through the rest of the tourney without having to write another word for the next two months.

If I were judging, which I am not (and clearly my opinions are at complete odds with the people whose opinions count), it would appear to me that most of your writing energy is being spent on sh*t that doesn't count. I'd give it to Spike 7-3, and Spike is the type of guy I would strap meat to and sick hungry rottweilers on.

Sorry Chad, DON'T TAZE ME BRO!

I'd love to see the list of guys that fall into this category besides Spike. Only question is, is this a special level of enmity or is this the Diet Coke of your burning hatred.

Diet Coke.

Or in Andy's case..Coke ZERO. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Andy, I only commented because I saw a few people imply that travel interfered with your ability to get three posts up in the match thread. You obviously were able to get six hype posts up and two more in the thread between the 4th and 7th. I get that you're busy, and I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just saying that you did plenty of writing this week. It just wasn't all in the match thread. But, now I know you have these hype parts done some ways out, so that makes much much more sense. Unfortunately, the match thread is what's being judged. There's not a stacking rule right now, so it really doesn't matter if Dusty was done or not, and your style isn't one that needs your opponent to reply in order for you to post since it's primarily storytelling-based, so I was just suggesting that you should have put one of those hype posts in the match thread if getting three up was the idea. If you have a match thread, and you need to show out your best in order to win the match and continue on through the tournament, it would behoove you to make sure the match thread is fully taken care of before any non-match hype is posted, right? I get though, that some people will not do what they consider stacking no matter what the rules say.

Also, you need to know that my comment wasn't in reaction to anything you said or did (right or wrong), but rather to the comments left by other people. So really, I don't think you need to defend yourself anyway. They implied you didn't have time. You say you chose not to do a third because Dusty was caught in travel and done at two. It's no biggie, really. These things happen.

You could say you decided to hit some strip clubs instead of writing and I would've been fine with it. It's really no big deal.

I guarantee you Justin (IWF) will never give you this much grief over your roleplay choices. :)

Getting the thread back on topic....

I'm in the process of reading the roleplays, but what I've read so far...

I actually was a bit confused as to why Andy was posting hype thread rps two days before the deadline. That's not a shot at Andy, he seems like a great guy and he's had more thick skin about all of this than most anyone else here would. Chad told me was on vacation and let Dusty and others know. Case closed. As long as the judges and his opponent were aware I think his rps in the match thread should be judged fairly.

Stevens and Andrews will be a tough one to call, both guys earn high marks. A lot of these matches in any round can go either way. I'd have to read them again in order to pick a winner.

I had a blast roleplaying against scotto and Showtime. His rp reminded me of some old CSWA stuff. Good writing, a little corny but good work. Wouldn't be shocked if i lose. Loved Penny Pickett. So much so I paid homage to her with my second. I probably should have cleared the rp first, but he was really cool with the rp and the usage of Penny. Again fan of his stuff and if i go down, I can't ask for more. Had a blast with this round.

Hopper/Whealdon should be interesting. I think Aaron has some witty lines and has created a character you could see on a WWE or TNA broadcast. Hopper was good. Generally I hate the use of pictures or video in roleplay, but again if I were judging I'd have to go back and really take a fine comb to each rp here.

Strife over Keller. Never read any of Keller's stuff before this round. I came away impressed. I would have loved to have seen this go to an extra rp between the two. For me the match was won in the first roleplay. Billy tore into Keller's downplaying of his own career. Really great rp from Billy here, lots of good character work. That's the advantage of going second, you either have no idea how you'll attack or someone leaves you a great opening and here Billy pounced. Keller made the mistake of trying to close the door he left open. It just made his first rp look like a bit of a wounded animal. That said, I still enjoyed the Keller character, wished his posts were a little longer and that both men did one more.

I liked the first Keller RP, even though I thought, as you noted Steve, it gave me a wonderful opening. I give Ben a lot of credit coming over from an angle fed and being able to trash talk like that. It's not easy, but he tried a style that is somewhat new for him, and produced a good result. We'll see how the judges score it. As for my own RPs, I'm thrilled and surprised that people liked the second RP better, because I thought I was stronger on the first one.

I'm critical as hell of my own stuff, so I'll echo the "I won't be surprised if I lose" sentiment. I knew I had to bring it to this round, both because of Steve's writing and because you don't get to RP against a "2x winner" very often in a tournament like this. I did some stuff, and if it works I'll be happy and if it doesn't, I'll feel better than if I tried to play it safe. I'll compliment the hell out of Steve's stuff because like me he strives for creativity. I think, in terms of roleplaying, the two of us had a slobberknocker. The fact that people are even saying it's so close is pretty great.

I think Penny has been the surprise hit of the tournament. Steve was classy as hell contacting me about his second RP. I'm always looking for different lenses through which to view my characters, and when I realized I was onto this thing I decided to run with it.

My hats off to the other Josh (Anarky) for giving me the challenge I wanted with this tournament. It was hard to evolve my character to fit the back and forth of our matchup! It was an honor and a privelige!
